When Agnes caught sight of Reggie's tormented expression, it was like a dagger to her heart, etching lines of sorrow deep within her soul.
Reggie's grip on Agnes's shoulders was firm, almost crushing. "You've got to stop meddling in these matters, Agnes. If not for your own sake, then for Nocturne's, alright? Promise me!"
It wasn’t the first time Reggie had said something like this.
But it was the first time he had ever sounded so final, so resolute.
Agnes felt as though his grip might shatter her bones right there and then.
A bit dazed, she nodded. "I understand, godfather. I get it."
Reggie closed his eyes, as if to shield himself from his own pain and helplessness.
When he opened them again, peace had settled over his features.
Standing tall once more, Reggie’s tone softened, "Agnes, your godfather only wants what’s best for you. I can't bear the thought of you in danger. I've always fancied myself strong, yet I've failed to protect those closest to me, time and again."
Agnes could hear the boundless frustration in his voice.
The pasta was ready. And as always, it was delicious.
Esther loved it too.
Nocturne woke up then, delighted to see Reggie.
After dinner, Agnes received a call from Jared.
He knew she was in the Capital.
Having just returned from a business trip in Japan, he headed straight to the Capital.
Agnes went to the airport to pick him up.
Following closely behind Jared was Jarvis.
Jarvis was a bodyguard Agnes had insisted Jared take on his trips, fearing for his safety even before Valeria had expressed her concerns.
Originally a special forces operative, Jarvis had left the police force after getting entangled in a drug trafficking case. Jared had then appointed him as the head of security for the Tim Group.
Now, Jarvis accompanied Jared on his travels to ease Agnes’s worries.
Jarvis and Agnes were on good terms.
