Jared said, "I have to head back tomorrow. Are you coming with me?"
Agnes shook her head, "I’d like to stay in the Capital a bit longer. My godfather's at Serenity Hall now."
Mentioning Reggie made Jared fall silent, as he took a sip of his red wine.
After a long pause, Jared finally asked, "How is he doing?"
Agnes replied, "Physically, he's almost recovered, but emotionally he's not the same. This incident has really taken its toll on him."
Jared remained quiet, saying nothing more.
Agnes then asked, "Do you want to visit him tomorrow before you leave?"
Jared turned away, "Why should I? Reggie and I... we’re not exactly close. Besides, I have an important meeting to attend back home."
Agnes sighed inwardly. She knew the meeting wasn't the real reason Jared was avoiding the visit. Even now, Jared struggled to understand his place in Reggie's life.
Sometimes, Agnes found it perplexing. Reggie cherished all his foster children, except for Jared, to whom he was inexplicably cold, barely speaking a word.
Agnes always felt Jared was innocent in this. Deep down, she knew Jared longed for Reggie's acknowledgment. But...
Agnes sighed again.
