When Jared brought up the idea of remarrying, Agnes was totally gobsmacked.

She even thought she was hearing things.

But Jared's face was dead serious, no sign of joking around.

While Agnes was still trying to wrap her head around this, Jared's phone started to ring.

Jared retrieved his phone from his pocket, took a quick glance at it, and then turned to answer the call by the window.

As Jared unlocked his phone, Agnes caught sight of the name on the screen: Valeria.

Agnes' mood instantly took a nosedive.

Jared just exchanged a few words before hanging up and he turned back around.

He told Agnes, "Think about what I proposed."

Agnes laughed and lifted her head to ask, "Remarry? What about Valeria? Weren't you just engaged to her today?"

"I'll call off the engagement. I'll handle the rest."

Agnes laughed sarcastically, "So engagements can be called off just like that, what about feelings, can they also change at whim?"

Agnes stared into Jared's eyes, a slight smile playing on her lips, "Jared, I heard a lot about you when I went back home. I didn't believe it at first, but now I see you've really changed."

Jared's face was impassive, he retorted, "Agnes, I am who I am because of you. If we remarry, you can stay with Summer. This is your only choice. Think it over."

"I don't need to think it over, Jared. I won't remarry you, nor will I maintain a broken marriage for the sake of Nocturne."

Jared took a step forward and grabbed Agnes' chin, "Do you think you're so noble? Haven't you stopped caring about the grudges between the Pritchards and the Whitfields? Otherwise, why would you be with Ryder? Agnes, I'm not arguing with you, I'm giving you a chance."

Agnes shook off Jared's hand, "I don’t need chances from you, Jared. Don't delude yourself."

The two found themselves in a silent standoff, neither willing to back down.
