Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 690

The secrets of four years ago finally spilled from Agnes' lips, secrets she had planned to bury forever.

Back then, Beatrice had tried to kill her, but had nearly lost her own life instead.

Despite everything, Agnes couldn't forget that Beatrice was their father's daughter, her sister. Blood ties were not easily discarded.

Returning home, Agnes had no intention of pursuing the car accident from the past. She had let go, but it seemed Beatrice hadn't. The malevolent intent was still there.

A chill seemed to rise from the soles of Agnes' feet, spreading coldly through her body. Even the air she breathed seemed icy.

Upon hearing this, Jared was consumed by fury. He had resented Agnes' sudden disappearance these past years, but had not imagined the horrors she had endured.

He had noticed Beatrice's feigned amnesia and her efforts to transform herself into an exact replica of Agnes. Sometimes, when he looked at that face, he felt a sense of disorientation. Though he had grown to despise Beatrice, there were moments when he'd gaze at that face and deceive himself into believing that Agnes had returned to him.

Jared knew it was self-deception, but he couldn't bring himself to hate that face.

Leo stood by, watching the scene unfold. Jared turned to him, "Find Beatrice, bring her to me."

Leo replied, "Sir, even without your order, I had my suspicions when Hammer confessed. I have already located Beatrice. She's currently in the Presidential Suite at the Hyatt Regency. Should I bring her here, or take her directly to the police station to confess?"

Jared's response was icy, "Bring her to me."

"Understood, sir," Leo affirmed.

Agnes was still battling a throbbing headache and decided to not think about anything. Jared suggested she rest, reminding her of the severity of the drug she inhaled. She drifted off to sleep again, but was soon awakened by Leo's announcement of Beatrice's arrival. Then Jared got out.

Agnes forced her eyes open. She needed to confront Beatrice. Despite the throbbing headache, her thoughts were clear. She slowly left her ward. It was the VVIP ward, as luxurious as suite a high-end hotel.

Jared and Beatrice were talking in the suite's living area. Agnes cracked the door open slightly, peering at the two from the gap.

Beatrice looked innocently terrified, "Please, Jared, you have to believe me! I didn't do this. Hammer is trying to frame me to clear his own name. I've always known about his affair with my mother, so I've kept him at arm's length. He's just trying to pull me down with him. You must believe me, Jared. I would never hurt Agnes. With our mother in jail, she's the only family I have left. I would never harm her."

Agnes, standing by the door, listening to Beatrice's plea, found it bitterly ironic.
