Over on the other side, at Windermere Estate.
Thaddeus was left stunned for several seconds after his ex-wife abruptly hung up on him.
Her resoluteness made it hard for him to associate her with the feeble wife who had once cried and begged him not to divorce her.
So, for these three years, she had no feelings for him at all, but had to bear with him just for some unknown purpose.
Thinking of this, Thaddeus was filled with anger.
“Mr. Thaddeus, your coffee.”
Gordon walked in, saw his grave expression, and carefully asked, “Did you manage to get in touch with Mrs. Abernathy? Did you find her new number?”
Thaddeus rubbed his forehead tiredly. Being busy with anger, he had forgotten about the things he needed to deal with.
He had thought that everything would go smoothly after Ilana left, but now he was upset because she was with Cassius.
What the hell! Why was she affecting his mood?
“Let's find another opportunity. I don't want to talk about that woman right now.”
Thaddeus picked up his coffee cup and took a sip, then suddenly his brows furrowed.
“What's wrong with this coffee? It tastes off.”
“I made it according to the recipe Mrs. Abernathy gave me. How could this be?” Gordon scratched his head in confusion.
“Recipe?”
“Before Mrs. Abernathy left, she gave me a notebook detailing your taste preferences, such as what you don't eat, how you like your coffee, and even what you ate at which year and month, and how many bites you took. All these minor things were clearly recorded.”
Saying this, Gordon took out the notebook from his pocket and handed it to Thaddeus.
Thaddeus took it, hesitated for a moment, and slowly opened it.
What caught his eye were clear and neat handwriting, which was just like Ilana's.
—"Add a dash of salt to the coffee to enhance the flavor. Thaddeus likes it."
—"He had two bowls of seafood vegetable soup made with fresh scallops in the morning. I can make it for him more often."
—"Thaddeus doesn't like overly sweet food. Try making something light like avocado salad. Thaddeus might like it."
—"The ties I bought for Thaddeus last year, he didn't even glance at the ones with red elements. Seems like Thaddeus doesn't like red..."
Every sentence was about him.
Thaddeus turned page after page, his breathing slowed down as if he was afraid to blow away the words on the paper.
His gaze became deeper and deeper, almost crumpling the paper.
“If she is so willing to decipher people's hearts, what else could it be if not for some ulterior motive!”
Despite the mixed feelings Thaddeus had about the contents of the notebook, he was still angry and threw it into the trash can.
“Hey, don't throw it away! Mr. Thaddeus, this is the result of Mrs. Abernathy's hard work over the past three years. If she didn't care about you, why would she quietly record all these? Clearly, you are very important to her!” Gordon ran to pick up the notebook, his face showing an expression of heartbreak.
“Don't call her Mrs. Abernathy anymore, she doesn't deserve it!”
Just then, there was a commotion outside the study.
It seemed, it was coming from the right side of the corridor.
That room, used to belong to Ilana.
“Go check what's going on.” Thaddeus rubbed his temples tiredly.
Gordon quickly walked out of the study, and soon returned with a complicated look on his face.
“Mr. Thaddeus, the noise was caused by Ms. Acacia. She... she...”
“What happened to Acacia?”
“She's throwing out all the things in your ex-wife's bedroom.”
Right now, Acacia was in a state of agitation, rampaging in Ilana's bedroom.
“Ilana... Ilana! You're just a country girl who's only cocky because you have a rich man pampering you, aren't you? What's so great about getting a bracelet?! You dare to look down on me!”
