The atmosphere in the living room was as thick and suffocating as a fog rolling over a graveyard in the dead of night, the air seemingly frozen solid.
"Thaddeus, cool your jets, man!"
Cassius, ever the older brother, tried to anchor himself in bravery despite the panic clawing at his insides over his sister's disappearance. He steadied Thaddeus with a firm grip, "We need to keep our heads. Losing it won't help anyone. Let's think this through – where could Evadne have gone? We need to track her down, pronto!"
"Thaddeus, Cassius is right!"
Aaron, feeling his own heart in his throat, offered what comfort he could, "Don't panic, we're all in this together..."
"You all have your significant others safe and sound... But my Evadne, she's gone!"
Thaddeus, his eyes blazing with a terrifying intensity, muscles taut with tension, roared in despair, "Evadne is my heart, my life!
If anything happens to her... if anything... Ah!"
Suddenly, he was gripped by an excruciating pain in his head, as if it were about to explode, plunging his world into darkness. His once strong body felt as if it would crumble at the slightest touch.
"Thaddeus... Thaddeus!"
"Save me... please, save me!"
In his mind, Evadne's voice echoed, a haunting cry for help from the chilling shadows, reaching out for Thaddeus.
"Evadne..."
His trembling hand reached out to her, his insides feeling like they were being torn apart by searing pain and overwhelming anguish.
He was so close to grasping her, to saving her from the abyss that threatened to swallow her whole, but then she was gone, dragged into a void from which there was no return.
"Evadne... Evadne!" Thaddeus cried out, his voice hoarse with pain and his eyes unfocused with agony.
He and Evadne had weathered many storms together, faced countless trials and tribulations. He had never felt so out of control.
Because they were connected, soul to soul.
This time, however, he was seized by a foreboding sense that he might lose her forever.
Debby, witnessing this side of Thaddeus for the first time, was petrified, her face pale and streaked with tears.
Not just her, but it seemed the entire Ashbourne family had never seen him like this.
