Suri was ready to take the fall as long as Myra and Aviana were not discovered.
"Why didn't you tell me?! She’s just a kid, she doesn't know any better, and you’re playing along too?! You watched her grow up. Don't you feel a thing when you see her suffer in this mess?!" Emeric pointed his finger at Suri.
"I messed up, Emeric. It’s all my fault."
Suri slowly stood up. The once proud heiress of the Bright family was then humble and submissive as she continued, "Don't blame Evadne. Blame me. I didn't care enough about her."
Evadne felt a pang in her heart. She was about to defend Suri but saw the fiery Aviana abruptly stand up from the couch, bluntly saying, "Emeric, don't blame Suri. I’m responsible too! I knew about Evadne's marriage affair a long time ago!"
"What?!" Emeric felt like he had been struck by lightning.
"And me, too." Myra cautiously raised her hand, "I knew about it, too."
"Myrie! Even you’re involved in this! You’ve been influenced by them!" Emeric was dizzy. Even the innocent Myrie had turned cunning!
Evadne couldn't help but tear up.
Well, even if Emeric wanted to be mad, it was useless then.
"Dad, don’t get angry. They did this for your sake, the less you know, the healthier you’ll be!" Arnold quickly stepped in to mediate, handing his father a cup of coffee, trying to appease him.
"I don’t want to hear you talk!"
Emeric, usually a gentleman, was then fuming like an irritable warlord, about to blow the roof off!
"Wait, no! Even you two have known it?"
Cassius and Arnold exchanged glances, clearing their throats.
This family was full of actors!
He was fooled by their acting. He was the only one left in the dark!
Emeric, who had been a force to be reckoned with in the business world, controlling others all his life, had been made a fool by his own family!
In a rage, he stood up and stormed upstairs.
"Emeric, aren't you going to have dinner?" Myra called after him but received no response.
"Aviana, you should go and talk to Emeric later. You have a gentle personality. He usually listens to you." Suri sighed in resignation.
"I dare not. I’ll prepare some of his favorite dishes and send them up later." Myra knew how serious the situation was and was scared.
"Emeric usually likes to stay in his treasure room when he's in a bad mood. Oh my god! Does that mean..."
Aviana gasped and just then, they heard Emeric's scream upstairs.
"Call the police! Call the police! My Dante Chair worth ten million dollars is gone!"
Dinner was finished amid the chaos.
If not for everyone's strong persuasion, Evadne felt that Emeric would have rushed to Elmsworth to get the Dante Chair back.
The older he got, the grumpier he became. Besides, in the antique world, one needs a thick skin to get good stuff. So Emeric's temper had been getting worse over the years.
No woman would probably have been interested in Chairman Emeric then, even if he paid them.
That night, Evadne and Nydia had a great time chatting, taking a bath together, blow-drying their hair, doing skincare, and chatting in bed.
"By the way, did you like the birthday present I gave you?" Nydia lay on the bed, propping up her chin with her hands.
"I love it. I hung it in my study in my Elmsworth villa. The day I hung it up, Jason thought it was a 3D-printed photo of me! So lifelike! He hardly ever praises anyone, but he praised it for a long time."
Evadne's eyes were full of adoration as she took her sister's soft hand in hers, "Your talented hands should be declared a world heritage. Or maybe I should get a high insurance policy for them! You’re the pride of our family!"
"Sister, don't flatter me. My skills are far inferior to mom’s." Nydia bit her lip. Her cheeks were flushing with a pair of adorable dimples.
