Thaddeus stood with his back to her, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
But he didn't have the guts to face her for some reason.
Avery's lips were pressed tight, a storm brewing in his eyes.
Even though Evadne and Thaddeus were divorced now and not on good terms, he still felt a complex mix of emotions between them.
"Thaddeus, spill the tea before you leave if you're here."
Evadne stepped forward, staring at Thaddeus's back, "Don't act like you've done something wrong. I don't want to have nightmares."
Thaddeus's throat bobbed, and he turned to face her, "It's nothing. I just can't sleep."
Evadne frowned, not understanding what his insomnia had to do with her.
Was this guy blaming his insomnia on her?
That's absurd! Why did everything have to be her fault? She hadn't done anything wrong!
"If you can't sleep, take a sleeping pill or count sheep. Coming here won't solve anything."
"It already has." Thaddeus looked at her, "Tonight, I think I'll sleep well."
With that, he turned and left.
Evadne watched his retreating figure until his car disappeared into the night, then she muttered, "Nutcase!"
Back in his car, Thaddeus felt exhaustion wash over him like a tide, his eyes redder than before.
He rested his arms on the steering wheel, muscles tense, breathing ragged.
As he watched Evadne and Avery go inside, his heart gave a little jolt.
Thaddeus picked up his phone with trembling fingers, dialing Gordon's number.
"Mr. Thaddeus, what can I do for you?"
"Look into it."
"Huh? Look into what?" Gordon was confused.
"Look into the relationship between the Ashbourne Group and the Chambers Group. Look into Evadne and Avery's relationship."
Thaddeus's voice was cold, "Evadne wasn't a woman who's easily fooled. I don't believe their relationship was as Avery said."
"Alright! I'll get right on it!"
Gordon was pleased, his voice becoming cheerful, then he cautiously added, "If only you trusted Evadne earlier, she wouldn't have left you. All those troubles wouldn't have occurred in front of her."
"One more word, and you're off to the Africa branch!" Thaddeus gritted his teeth.
Gordon quickly apologized, "I'm sorry! I know I messed up!"
Evadne had noticed Thaddeus at the gate.
She didn't want to deal with him, and she wanted him to deal with his own mess.
But Avery had gone to see him, so she had to intervene to prevent the situation from getting worse.
The little incident didn't ruin the party, and the dinner ended in a cheerful atmosphere.
Emeric returned to his study with Mr. Dylan, then secretly called Cassius and Arnold.
"Dad, what did you want to talk about?" Cassius asked.
"How much do you know about Evadne and Mr. Avery? Tell me the truth." Emeric asked, sitting elegantly on the sofa.
