"Jareth?!"
As Evadne stared at Jareth's striking features, her charming eyes widened in surprise, sparkling like morning stars.
"Mr. Fairhaven?!" Aviana, standing beside her, was also stunned.
Ever since the unfortunate incident with Ms. Marilla Abernathy, Jareth had devoted himself to being by his beloved's side daily. He had little time for the business world or the social circuit. Apart from Barry's funeral, he’d never showed his face in public and had maintained an incredibly low profile.
This was only his second public appearance since then!
The few ringleaders of the S-Star Group, including Brook, who’d been plotting a coup, visibly paled at the arrival of the Fairhaven family's son. Some even stumbled back in fear.
No, not just the son; he was now the chairman!
"Aviana, Evadne."
Jareth's gaze slightly narrowed, his broad shoulders shrugged, and his black coat slid off to be caught by Dean behind him, "Thad sent me over, said there'd be quite the show at the S-Star Group today. I've always loved a good spectacle. And indeed, my buddy didn’t lie."
Looking into his bright, unrestrained eyes, Evadne bit her quivering lips, her eyes reddening. She barely managed to hold back her tears.
How long had it been since she'd seen Jareth smile like that? It felt like ages.
The man who once commanded the entirety of Elmsworth with his unruly and defiant demeanor seemed to have returned after venturing through trials and tribulations.
"I assume everyone here knows who I am?"
Jareth's half-smirk took in everyone, his gaze finally resting coldly on Brook, "Though my grandpa is no longer with us, and the Fairhaven family has since ventured into legitimate business, the influence prevails."
He lowered his gaze, casually fiddling with the platinum wedding ring on his finger, "Leave here today, and not only will the S-Star Group no longer accept you, but the Fairhaven family won't either.
The world is a dangerous place, a storm of blood and violence. From here on out, you're on your own."
This was a blatant threat!
But a threat from Mr. Fairhaven was far more potent than any from Ms. Ashbourne! After all, the late Barry was a legend, a giant among men. Even Mark, who’d made a name for himself in one battle, was nothing compared to Barry.
Since then, the Fairhaven family had ventured into business, and the eldest son of the Fairhaven family gradually legitimized the family's dealings. Still, many gangs respected Barry and relied on the Fairhaven family, though it was never openly discussed for the sake of the family’s reputation!
Offending the S-Star Group might leave a sliver of survival. But offending the Fairhaven Group meant they were done in Elmsworth!
Moreover, the streets were abuzz with rumors that Gary from the Fairhaven family had mysteriously died in a heavily guarded hospital. That was Jareth's doing!
"I'll count to three. Sit back down within three counts, and as far as the S-Star Group and I are concerned, all is forgiven."
Jareth's brow arched, a fierce smile on his lips, "Three."
Before he could count further, every traitorous soul except Brook hurried back to their seats, pretending as if nothing had happened. It was almost laughable.
"Brook, among all the S-Star Group, you've been with my father the longest. When I was a child, you even held me."
Looking at Brook's trembling figure, Aviana sighed, her voice sincere, "The S-Star Group isn't just my father's; it's the result of everyone's hard work. If you can turn back now and never touch those drugs again, my father and I will pretend today never happened."
After a few seconds of silence, Brook finally walked out of the conference room under everyone's gaze.
Though Brook had left the S-Star Group, all the other leaders chose to stay, securing the foundation of the S-Star Group.
As for those subordinates attempting to orchestrate any scheme, with Evadne and Jareth's backing, even if they harbored ulterior motives, they dared not act rashly.
After the meeting, Aviana's clothes were soaked with sweat, and she felt as if she'd been flayed, "Damn. I finally understand Lionel. These years have been too hard on him."
As she spoke, her heart ached, and her eyes moistened.
"Aviana, don't worry. Thaddeus and I will find a way to save Lionel."
