"Where are we heading?" Elsie's gaze was empty and numb as she looked at him.
After ending things with Elvis, she felt adrift, indifferent to who she was with or where she was going. But she sensed that something major must have happened back home, something that shook Avery to his core, making Harvey, who worshipped Avery like a god, so desperate to flee.
"Anywhere's fine. I've saved enough working with Mr. Chambers over the years to keep us comfortable for the rest of our lives!" Harvey pulled a USB drive from the computer and tucked it inside his jacket.
Elsie watched his chest, her eyes darkening. "Didn't Mr. Chambers say we were to get married in Helgen?"
"Let's just get out of here first!"
Harvey, Avery's henchman, was known for being ruthless, but his feelings for Elsie were genuine. The warmth in his gaze couldn't lie. "Getting married isn't the most important thing. What matters is being with you, always."
Yet, Elsie felt nothing, her gaze colder than ever.
Then, the phone rang.
Even the most mundane ringtone sent Harvey into a shiver. Seeing it was Avery calling, he didn't dare delay, answering with forced calm, "Mr. Chambers, what do you need?"
Whatever Avery said on the other end changed Harvey's expression dramatically. He paced anxiously, yet still tried to butter him up. "With everything going on, it's really kind of you to think of us, Mr. Chambers. We'll follow your plans then."
After hanging up, Harvey slumped into the armchair, gazing at the ceiling with heavy eyes.
Elsie's eyebrows knit together. "Harv, what's wrong?"
She didn't care about him; she was worried about Avery's next move.
"Mr. Chambers wants us to get married in Helgen, have a wedding. After that, he said we're free to go wherever, no interference."
By now, Elsie had resigned herself to marrying Harvey, her tone indifferent. "Isn't that what you always wanted?"
"But something feels off."
Harvey's brow furrowed, his thoughts a mess. "But it's an order from Mr. Chambers. I have no choice but to comply."
