Ralph decided to try it. He gritted his teeth and recalled the password he saw in Alexander’s office. He began to move the dial slowly out of fear that he might accidentally trigger the trap.
Just then, he heard a slight click sound, and he could feel that the safe had unlocked. He was overjoyed!
He stopped just as he was about to open the safe and decided to use the piece of wood.
When he opened the safe, a “whoosh” sound was heard, followed by a cool breeze, and two sharp arrows were currently stabbed into the ground in front of the opened safe. Ralph could not help the shiver down his spine—that was such a close call!
Ralph was right to predict that Alexander still set other traps. It was exactly his style to do something like this. His gaze fell upon a book within the safe. Ralph was elated. He wanted to cheer out loud with joy so badly.
This was it! Lying in a safe in Alexander’s bedroom and guarded by layers of booby traps, it was definitely the secret kickboxing handbook!
He had never expected his father to own something as priceless as this. However, it was also unbelievable that he would ignore his own son and pass it on to his grandson instead. They did not even inform him of something like this.
How could they do this?!
If it were not for Heather, he would not have been able to get a glimpse into this secret at all. He could not help but complain about his father while putting on gloves and carefully taking out the book. The book had a dark navy cover, and it looked ancient. It was bound together with a string, and as Ralph roughly looked through it, he was sure that this book was what he was looking for, as there were pictures of strange fighting positions.
Ralph had never learned any type of self-defense skill, so he did not understand the illustrations found in the book. There were also no words written in the book, and only a few words were sitting at the bottom of the last page.
It read, “our family heirloom.” However, there was no clear indication that this family heirloom belonged to which family, as no surname was written.
Since he was sure that this book was it, he took out a piece of cloth and carefully wrapped the book with it, and then he placed it into his jacket pocket. He had learned this method from some TV program. By putting on gloves and wrapping the book with a piece of cloth, he could avoid leaving his fingerprints on it.
After successfully getting what he had come for, he was relieved and left the room with light footsteps. He was moving faster than before and made sure to close the safe properly. He checked meticulously to ensure he did not leave fingerprints behind and checked for security cameras. Still, it would be pointless for Alexander to be upset after Ralph had given this to Heather.
He moved downstairs with a light skip in his footsteps, indicating that he was in a good mood while he whistled to a tune he loved. Ralph walked to the sofa and pulled a ring from his pocket as the butler entered. "Mr. Ralph, did you find it?"
Ralph spun the ring in his hand and grumbled to the butler, "Stop rushing me! Don’t you know that it’s hard to find such a small piece of jewelry? I’m doing this all for you. If it weren’t for me, you'd probably face theft charges from my mother!”
