‘Is this why Cameron has been acting strangely lately? Is this why I’ve been feeling that he was hostile toward Ree? I never would’ve thought that Ree would have anything to do with Anastasia getting poisoned. If what Cameron said was right, I won’t be able to imagine the consequences!’
“Is that even important? Didn’t Uncle Cameron convict me for it already?” Rhea was still being nonchalant, as she usually was.
She had been sitting in the same spot, and it appeared that she had no intention of admitting her mistakes and apologizing at all. From her words, one could tell that she was trying to say that Cameron had accused her of something she did not do.
While Cameron was on the phone, Maria begged him on the floor, but it was useless. Then she turned to hug Anastasia’s calf instead. “Anastasia… We took care of you when you were younger, and you spent a lot of time with Ree back then as well. Even though the two of you aren’t close to each other, you’re still family. Help Ree convince your father. Please…”
Anastasia had mixed feelings when she saw Maria crying and pleading with her. She could not deny that she regarded Fabian and Maria as her family. After all, she had never seen her mother before, and the couple was close to her mother before she passed away. They treated her well, too.
However, the thought that Rhea had made her life a living hell over the years, and the way she was unwilling to admit what she did as if everything had nothing to do with her infuriated Anastasia even more.
Frowning, she started hesitantly. “Aunt Maria, you know how my dad is. I can’t influence his decision so easily…”
“You…”
Amidst the chaos, a loud slap sounded. It was crisp and loud, stunning everyone, including Cameron, who was on the phone. With the phone in his hand, he had forgotten what to say for a moment as his gaze looked in the direction of the sound.
After getting slapped, Rhea held her cheek in a daze for a long time. She could not fathom what had just happened, but she knew that her cheek was stinging in pain and that her ears were buzzing. Soon, one side of her cheek swelled.
“You…” She held her face, unable to come up with words to say for a moment as she watched Fabian get up to his feet and rebuke her, “You piece of sh*t! What did you do to get your uncle this mad? If you did it, then admit it honestly and get the punishment you deserve.
“If you did not do it, you should apologize! You must’ve done something to make Uncle Cameron misunderstand you!”
“Are you crazy? How could you do that to our daughter?” It hurt Maria to see Rhea in pain. She returned to her senses and shoved Fabian away so she could take a good look at Rhea’s face, which only made her tears fall even harder. “Ree, does it hurt? Are you okay?”
Rhea’s mind cleared up gradually, and she smiled coldly at her infuriated father. “Fabian Moore, you’re amazing! I can’t believe you can even slap me just to get on his good side! But I’m not surprised, though. Ever since I was young, all the two of you cared about was Anastasia! When did you guys ever care about me? I’m nothing to the two of you!”
While holding her cheek, she got up to her feet and looked into Cameron’s eyes. “Yeah, it was me. I poisoned her! I hate her! I’m jealous of her! Why does everyone love her? I’m better than her in everything! I’m my parents’ biological daughter, but they treated her so much better than me just to curry favor with you! Why? Why is it so unfair? I’m not wrong!”
She looked up and exploded in rage, as if all the anger she felt over the years had been released at this moment. Maria was stunned by the sight and quickly went up to tug on Rhea’s arm. “Ree! What nonsense are you spouting? Have you gone mad?”
