Lily lowered her gaze to look at the ring on her finger. It was magical how such a small band that encircled her finger seemed to do the same to her heart. She used her finger to rub the ring lightly, then looked up at Alexander, smiling. “I like it.”
After deciding on the rings, the two got up and headed out of the VIP room. The sales advisor had already taken Alexander’s card to check out the rings while Alexander was on his phone, talking business. Other customers looked at jewelry in the store, and Lily left first.
“Mom, I think this looks good. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a jade ring. Diamond rings are fine too.”
“You youngsters know nothing about rings. Gold is valuable, and jade is priceless. No matter how expensive diamond rings are, how could they compare to jades?” The old lady sounded displeased.
Lily did not listen in on their conversation, but they captured her attention because what they said was too surprising.
The jewelry store only sold diamond rings. For them to compare the rings and insist that jade rings were better than diamond rings in such a store would make things awkward for the sales advisors. It would make those customers who came to purchase diamond rings feel uncomfortable too.
“All right then. I know you prefer jade rings, but there isn’t anything like that here, is there? Since that’s the case, why don’t you look around and see if you like anything else? Ralph is getting married next month, so you need to be well-dressed, don’t you?”
Lily looked toward where the voice came from and saw a well-rounded old lady sitting by the counter with displeasure written all over her face. The middle-aged woman who stood by her side seemed to have maintained her beauty well, but the wrinkles at the corner of her eyes revealed her actual age.
“Look at this, and this too. This ring looks great, doesn’t it? It suits your demeanor well, too,” the sales advisor suggested.
“They’re no great shakes.” The old lady snorted, obviously dissatisfied. “Do you guys have any pink diamond rings or sapphire rings? Show them to me. Anyhow, I want something different from others.”
“We have them, but the prices are…” The sales advisors would remind the customers about the prices subtly should the rings be too costly.
