“Hey,” Alexander’s grandmother, Margaret, snorted, but she looked past him and stared at Lily. “Aren’t you going to introduce her to me?”
“Grandma, you’ll get to know her on our wedding day.” After a pause, he continued, “Plus, you can find out about everything. I’m sure you knew who she was long ago, so I don’t need to introduce her to you, right?”
“You!” Margaret gritted her teeth as her gaze turned fierce. Lily was speechless upon seeing that.
Although she could not hear their conversation, she could see that Margaret’s gaze changed after listening to Alexander’s words. From Margaret’s expression, Lily could tell that the old lady disliked or loathed her.
“Alex, how could you say that to your grandma? She’s just concerned about you.” Alexander’s aunt, Celine Russell, tried to reprimand him more calmly. “Also, when are you getting married? When was it decided? Have you decided on the date? Why haven’t we heard anything about it?”
Alexander looked at Celine and smiled. “Aunt Celine, you seemed very concerned about my wedding. Are you planning to send us a huge gift?”
The smile on Celine’s face froze before she said, “Of course! You’re my nephew, and you’re getting married soon. It’s only right that I send you a huge gift as your aunt. However…”
Celine tilted her head slightly to look at Lily, whom Alexander had blocked from their vision with his physique. It made Celine think that he was overly protective of her.
“You’re going to get married, but you haven’t introduced your wife to your grandma and me. It seems that you don’t treat us as your family,” Celine said half-jokingly. “I heard that her name is Lily Christian, is that right? She’s Mr. Wilfred Lodge’s granddaughter?”
“Wow, look at you, Aunt Celine. You know everything, so I don’t need to introduce her to you guys again unless you want to hear about how we first met and how we spend our time together daily.”
Celine was stunned for a moment before calling, “Alex!”
“Grandma, it’s rare for you to come out shopping. I won’t bother you further, so you can continue picking diamond rings. Since we met coincidentally, I’d like to remind you not to forget to give your granddaughter-in-law a gift during our wedding.”
Margaret gritted her teeth. Her hand was pressed down hard on the couch while her fingers gripped the armrest tightly. The muscles of her face were trembling, and one could tell she was suppressing her wrath.
Alexander pretended to see nothing and turned around to leave. He circled his arm around Lily’s waist and straightened his back as they walked away.
Lily had no idea about the conversation between the three Russells or what happened back there, but she was sure it was an unpleasant encounter for either of them.
Since they left the store, he had not said a word and kept a tight grip on her waist. Rather than saying he was holding her waist, he was more like a drowning man gripping tightly onto a piece of driftwood.
Lily could feel his emotions and chose not to say anything, allowing him to hold her waist until they reached their car in the parking lot. Alexander released her waist and unlocked the car, but his expression was still tense. He was different from how he usually was.
She had seen his serious side before, and she had seen him furious as well. However, it was her first time seeing this side of him, like fury was burning within him, but he chose to hold it back.
She opened the door and sat in the passenger seat. Before he said anything, she would just stay by his side. He did not start the car's engine, so the two just sat in dead silence.
