She didn't want to deal with complicated family dynamics, but she knew that by marrying Alexander, it was inevitable. There were bound to be more situations like these in the future. Did that mean that she would have to turn to him for help each time?
She wanted to stand up for herself so that she could stand shoulder to shoulder with him, even though he pampered and protected her. To avoid holding him back or causing him to worry about her, she wanted him to know that she could stand up for herself.
After taking a couple of aspirin and drinking another glass of water, Lily felt a little better and had more strength than before.
"Madame, are you feeling better? Do you want to go to the hospital?" The maid asked worriedly.
Lily shook her head. "Is there any food at home?"
"I've made pumpkin soup and bread. It's still warm. Would you like some?"
"Get me a bowl and leave it on the table to cool. I'll go out right away," she said. "Also, bring out a plate of bread and invite the guests in."
"All right," the maid responded.
Lily supported herself by leaning one hand against the table, feeling her legs a little unsteady as she stood up. Standing in front of the mirror, she saw she looked a little pale. In the end, she put on some makeup to make herself look more presentable.
'I'll just go out and meet them. How bad can they be? If they act like guests, I'll treat them as one. If they’re rude, I'll just chase them out. How bad can it be?'
…
Outside the door, Celine was fanning herself and Margaret.
