Ralph felt humiliated by her words, which felt like a hard slap to his face. When his furious gaze met hers, the fire burning within him immediately diminished.
‘Why is this woman so different from how she was when I met her two days ago? She’s a completely different person! I would have thought that I got the wrong person if she didn’t look the same, if her words didn’t match, and if I didn’t know what she looked like.’
“I…” Ralph muttered, not daring to be harsh on her anymore, and could only give in. “Okay then. I’m sorry, and I admit that I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said those things to you, but you must understand that I’m a normal man, and like any other, I would get jealous when I see my
fiancée drinking coffee with another man. Heather, I just love you too much!”
As he said that, he reached his hand across the table, wanting to hold hers. In response, Heather’s hand shifted place so fast that he almost did not notice her movement. A second later, her hand was already off the tabletop, which made Ralph even more awkward when his palm came into contact with the table.
“Heather…”
“Don’t call my name like that!” Heather reproved. The way he called her name disgusted her.
“What happened? You were fine a few days ago. Did I do something wrong and make you angry? Is it because of what happened earlier? It’s my fault, and I apologize, all right? Could you forgive me?” Ralph said sincerely, and after giving it some thought, he took out the bracelet he had bought from the store earlier and put it in front of her like an offering. “Look. I even bought a gift for you. I didn’t expect to meet you here, so this must be fate. You don’t even know how happy I was when I saw you! Heather, forgive me…”
“I’ll say it again. Do not call my name like that!” Heather’s voice sounded like it was covered with ice, so cold and piercing. It sent chills up Ralph’s spine.
He shuddered, not daring to call her name anymore, and pushed the jewelry box forward carefully. “Then… take a look at this? Do you like it?”
