Yasmine was overjoyed after receiving Ivor’s word. “You got it, boss! I promise to behave and stay home for now. I won’t go out and cause you any more trouble!”
“Mhm,” Ivor responded dryly before leaving. Once outside, he asked Floyd, “What do you think about Yasmine’s ‘savior’?”
“Although Yasmine’s quirky, her mind is sharp. I don’t think she’d make mistakes about anyone’s good intentions.” Floyd observed his boss’s expression before asking, “Don’t you think you’re being overly cautious this time, Mr. Ivor? Maybe that person is a good guy.”
“It’s hard to say.” Ivor shook his head. “After all, he timed his appearance perfectly. I can’t help but find it suspicious.”
Floyd looked at his boss questioningly. “Should I tell the men protecting Yasmine to be extra careful so no one can sneak up on her?”
“Sure, tell them to look out for any suspicious characters and report to me immediately when they find something,” Ivor said. Suddenly, he remembered how rowdy Yasmine could be.
He reminded Floyd, “Tell them not to take their eyes off Yasmine. Otherwise, she might sneak out and look for her so-called savior herself! That’s our priority, got it?”
‘Yasmine might be capable, but she can give me a headache.’
Floyd quickly replied, “Understood, Mr. Ivor. I’ll emphasize it to them.”
…
Meanwhile, Bonnie felt the cool breeze on her face as she sat in Collin’s Ford Raptor. She instinctively sighed in relief, saying, “It’s been a while since I worked out that much. What happened just now wore me out.”
“You’re tired? Anyone else would’ve died if they were in your shoes.” Collin recalled what he saw from outside and felt a shiver down his spine. “You have no idea how many people the District Nine organizations sent to catch you two.
“I almost rushed inside to save you several times, but I was worried I’d be a burden instead. I could only bite my nails and wait for you. Your escape under such circumstances is impressive enough, but you saved Yasmine, too.”
Collin was thoroughly impressed as he continued, “You’re more formidable than you’ve ever been, Chief. I might need to stop slacking off and start training when I return.”
Bonnie chuckled and asked, “Can you be any more dramatic?”
“You escaped so many people, saved someone, and got away in one piece. Don’t you know how skillful and ferocious you are, Chief? No one else could’ve done what you did.” Collin thought Bonnie was humble bragging.
She scoffed and then remembered something. Then, she said coldly, “I heard Yasmine hypnotizing Billy and asking him about the chip when I hid in the room. I can’t help but wonder if she’s an ally or an enemy.”
Collin was stunned when he heard that. He frowned and asked, “If so, why’d you save her? What’ll we do if she’s an enemy? It’ll look like we’re asking for trouble, no?”
“I saved Yasmine because she’s an Arvandorian, like us. I sympathized with her because it’s tough to be out here in a foreign country alone.”
