"I missed you so much Elizabeth!" Evelyn Wu said with a smile as she grabbed onto Elizabeth Liang, who had just come back to school, "Feels like it's been a lifetime since we last met! I'm like ten years older now!"
Evelyn was one of Elizabeth's favorite classmates in A University, and a former roommate. She was a very petite and lovely girl.
"Yeah, I've missed you too." Even though Elizabeth had gone through an unimaginably tumultuous week, at least she was finally back at school and seeing her only friend. That did lift her spirits up.
Not counting the fact that it took her two hours to get here!
"The dean is so freaking annoying, he said he was gonna make you write an apology letter for missing classes."
Elizabeth smiled and said, "I'll just write it."
"But seriously Elizabeth, what happened to you? You wouldn't tell me when I called you."
Elizabeth lightly sighed and pretended to be unbothered. "Basically, I got dumped by Theodore and became a homeless wretch."
"What? How did that happen?" Elizabeth said it casually like it was no big deal, but Evelyn could tell that things were not so simple. Evelyn felt her chest tighten as she saw the forlorn smile on Elizabeth's Elizabeth had lost her parents, but a week ago at least she was still the well- bred daughter of an affluent family, and betrothed to a handsome gentleman. But now, she was homeless...
Evelyn gave Elizabeth a hug. "Elizabeth, are you okay?"
The hug warmed Elizabeth's heart, and also reminded her of the heartache. Tears welled up in her big misty eyes.
Elizabeth sniffled and gently pulled Evelyn away. She smiled and said, "Don't make me emotional, I can't take it right now. I'm doing good, Evelyn. Thank you."
Evelyn nodded. "I will be the one to love you from now on. Don't worry, I will never abandon you."
"... What the hell are you saying?"
"Loll I'm kidding to cheer you up! By the way, where were you living the past few days?"
"Uh..." Elizabeth thought for a moment. "I'm living at a friend's place. Don't worry about it."
Some things are better left for another day.
"Oh, okay."
Thinking of her "friend", Elizabeth remembered her difficult situation. "Evelyn, I know I borrowed money from you a few days ago..." She's almost used it all up on grocery shopping, but she still didn't have the money to pay it back.
Evelyn gave a big confident wave of the hand, "No big deal at all. Just pay me back when you can." "No, I meant," Elizabeth was a little embarrassed. "Can you lend me some more?" She knew that Evelyn came from an ordinary family, and that she often worked as a home tutor or part-timer on the side.
But she had to buy groceries every day now.
"How much do you need?"
"Maybe five hundred?"
"Okay, I'll transfer it to your card later."
"Thanks." Elizabeth felt awkward, but also grateful. "Evelyn, can you help me find a part-time job? I... really need money right now."
She can't keep borrowing money forever. As for James, she's already in his debt for the marriage, she wouldn't dare to ask him for more.
"Don't worry, leave it to me."

In a rare event, James Lu got off work today before five o'clock, which shocked Samuel Lee so much that he couldn't keep his jaw closed.
His boss could be a handful at times, but unless there was a meeting he had to attend, James never went home earlier than his employees.
Did the boss have a meeting today?
Samuel hurriedly flipped open the schedule notebook that he always carried around, but he couldn't find anything even after carefully looking through it three times! And the most puzzling fact was the extremely pleased expression on his boss's face. "Are you going somewhere, Mr. Lu?" If Samuel did forget about a meeting, that would be a grave neglect of duty on his part.
