I Only Want You novel Chapter 39

When Elizabeth Liang arrived home with groceries, she heard the familiar rumbling sound of the ventilator coming from the kitchen, accompanied by the sound of pots and bowls colliding. The house was filled with the smell of burnt food.

A suspicion arose in her mind. Was James Lu cooking? But he's made it clear that he never would!

Elizabeth changed into slippers and walked to the kitchen step by step.

When she was just a few steps away, she heard the sound of tableware crashing onto the floor again.

And then, she heard a surprised gasp coming from the kitchen.

Elizabeth ran over and saw Lydia Song squatting on the floor and holding her bleeding hand, with a terrified expression on her face.

"Mom!" Elizabeth was also extremely startled. She didn't expect Lydia to be here at all, let alone cooking for them.

However... as she looked around the kitchen, Elizabeth was at a complete loss for words—

The formerly neat kitchen was turned into a shocking mess. Bowls and plates were scattered all over the place, and almost every pot in the house was taken out and set up in strange positions. For whatever reason, the floor looked like it was sprayed with black paint. Inside the pan on the stove was a burnt and unidentifiable ball of black matter that was creaking with smoke. The stove fire wasn't turned off either.

"Elizabeth!" Lydia blinked at her with innocent eyes as if she was looking at her savior.

But her delicate and well- maintained face was currently covered in black patches like a calico cat, or perhaps a poor Victorian girl begging on the streets.

Elizabeth tried her best not to laugh. She answered and ran over to turn off the fire, then squatted down beside Lydia and grabbed her hand. "You hurt yourself, mom. Come on, let's rinse it with water first."

With that, she helped Lydia up and walked with her to the sink.

The sink was filled with dirty plates and countless pieces of broken bowls.

Elizabeth was pretty upset, but she didn't say anything.

"Hehe..." Lydia smiled guiltily. "I'm sorry I did this to the kitchen, Elizabeth. You won't blame me, will you?"

Elizabeth turned on the water and carefully washed Lydia's hand. "It's okay, mom. I'll clean it up later."

"I wanted to make a meal for you two. Jimmy has to work and you have to go to school..." Lydia tried her best to endure the sharp pain from her hand and said in a dismayed voice.

"How could I blame you mom? I know you meant well!" Lydia sighed in distress. "You can't eat my food anymore..."

Elizabeth glanced at the pan and thought to herself, good thing I can't!

"Come on, mom, let's go to the living room. I'll patch you up!"

When James returned, he was stunned by the burnt smell as soon as he entered the door.

Was the house on fire?

"Jimmy!" Lydia turned around and pouted like a wronged child.

Looking at Lydia's appearance, it took James a good few seconds before he recognized that she was his dear mother!

"What's going on?" Without changing his shoes, he ran over and looked at Elizabeth rubbing alcohol onto Lydia's hand. "What's wrong with your hand?"

Lydia was embarrassed. "Nothing."

James did not believe her. When he ran to the kitchen and saw the sight before him, he couldn't help but rub his forehead. "Can anyone tell me what happened?"

"Well..." Lydia smiled awkwardly. "I wanted to cook for you guys..."

James took a deep breath and said, "Are you sure you were cooking? And not setting my kitchen on fire?" Then he glared at Elizabeth, "And you just let my mom do it?"

He had never ever seen his mother in the kitchen since he was born! "Mom, we ran out of band-aids. I'll just bandage you with gauze for now." With this, Elizabeth took out some gauze from a small medical kit.
