John Lu, who had already had dinner and was watching financial news on the sofa, frowned slightly when he saw his wife rushing into the house with his son and daughter-in-law following behind. He said to Lydia Song, "Slow down, you'll fall over."
Lydia ignored her husband's words and quickly ran into his arms. "Honey, I got hurt..." She sniffled as she spoke, and raised her hand. "Look."
John looked at Lydia's fair and small hand with a bow wrapped around it, and couldn't help but knit his dark eyebrows together. "What happened?" Lydia had washed her face, but her hair was still a little messy, and there was a faint burnt smell coming from it. "How did you get yourself like this?"
Lydia chuckled and made a face like a little girl, but did not answer.
She would rather not admit to something so embarrassing!
John looked at James Lu. "Tell me."
John treasured his wife more than anything in the world, even a strand of fallen hair from her would make his heart wrench. She was so excited to go visit her new daughter-in-law at her son's house, yet she came back looking like this...
James shrugged helplessly and sat on the sofa together with Elizabeth Liang. "Your wife..."
When he began speaking, Lydia hurriedly winked at him as a signal to not tell the truth.
But James was not going to play along. "Almost burned my kitchen today. That's all."
Lydia glared viciously at James, then looked at John with big puppy eyes. "I happened to be there early, so I just wanted to make dinner for Elizabeth and Jimmy, 'cause they're both so busy... It's not as bad as Jimmy's making it out to be!" She only shattered a few bowls and messed up the kitchen a little, it really wasn't that bad at all!.
John held Lydia's hand. "Don't you know your own limits?"
When has his precious wife ever entered the kitchen other than to look for food?
Lydia smiled awkwardly and waved around her wrapped up hand, then sneakily changed the topic. "Honey, isn't this little bow so cute? Elizabeth did this for me!" Pleased, she continued, "She's so clever and skilled, oh I love it so much!"
"..." John was speechless, but he had given up.
James was already used to his mother's occasional antics, so he just turned around and shouted, "Please make some dinner for us, Auntie Chang."

Placed on the Lu family dinner table were five simple yet tasty-smelling dishes of food and soup.
"How do you guys make such delicious food?" Lydia, who was quite an enthusiastic foodie, raised her chopsticks but did not immediately dig in. Instead, she sighed gloomily. "Why can't I make something like this?"
John had finished dinner long before this, so he was not there. Only three of them were gathered by the table.
Hearing his mother's lament, James gave a merciless reply. "Because you're too stupid!"
Stunned, Lydia widened her eyes. "Jimmy..."
Shouldn't he, as her son, be comforting her right now?
Sniffle...
Elizabeth helplessly glanced towards James. She could see Lydia looking at her hopefully out of the corner of her eye, so she tried her best to put on a sincere smile. "It's not true, mom, don't listen to his nonsense."
Seeing that Elizabeth dared to blatantly refute him, James gave her a displeased glare and continued to eat. After a busy workday and the shenanigans from South Lake to Lu mansion, he was absolutely starving.
"Do you mean it, Elizabeth?" Lydia's eyes were filled with joy.
She knew that someone would understand her!
"Yes, mom."
