I Only Want You novel Chapter 53

James Lu, who was still standing by the door out of worry, immediately pushed open the door when he heard the noise inside.

"What is it this time?"

Elizabeth Liang was hopping around in pain when she awkwardly turned to look at James with a miserable expression and said, "Nothing ..."

James's face twisted as he scanned the room. He walked over, "Are you too stupid to use an ice pack?"

He picked up the ice pack from the floor and pointed to the bed, "Lie on your stomach!"

"Huh?"

He didn't say anything else, but the irritation in his eyes was palpable.

Embarrassed, Elizabeth bit her lips. But she still limped to her bed and laid down.

He snorted and was about to pull her clothes up.

Elizabeth's heart jumped to her throat. She instantly reached out and held him down, "I... You ..."

James sarcastically blurted out, "Hmph, do you think there's any part of your body that I haven't seen yet?"

As soon as he finished speaking, they both froze. Elizabeth's eyelashes trembled slightly. She bit her lips from shame and buried her head deeply into her soft pillow.

James raised his eyebrows, and couldn't help but secretly curse at himself - F*ck, what the hell was he saying?!

"Ahem..." He coughed quietly to mitigate his embarrassment, but his hands continued to move. He waved away her interrupting hands and lifted up the hem of her shirt.

When he saw the alarmingly swollen patch of skin on her waist, his eyes widened in rage. "Damn it!"

Elizabeth thought that he was cursing at her, so she asked him in a voice muffled by the pillow, "... What?"

"F*ck that b*tch Josephine Liang, I'm gonna kill her!"

His words were vicious, but his hands were gentle as he carefully pressed the ice pack against her waist.

Elizabeth flinched and struggled to move away from it.

James held down her shoulder to stop her from moving. "This is really good for getting rid of the swelling. Bear with me, okay?"

His voice was soft and sonorous, as if he was comforting a little baby.

Once she had finally gotten used to the cold and quieted down, he applied another ice pack onto her also injured and swollen toes. To prevent the melted ice from soaking the sheets, he took the extra measure of putting a dry towel under her foot. The room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Elizabeth could feel her heart beating louder and louder, thrashing against her chest.

Fortunately she was covered by the pillow, so he couldn't see that she was blushing, or that she was moved to tears.

Before Elizabeth met James, her uncle would give her an allowance of two thousand every month, but he never helped with anything else, not to mention her aunt Charlotte Dong and Josephine. Although they would occasionally offer caring words, she was wise enough to differentiate between genuine and fake concern.

She also had Theodore Chao back then, and he seemed to care about her and would pick her up from school once in a while. He would tell her to dress warmly when it was cold, and to bring an umbrella when it was raining. But that wasn't the kind of care she was looking for! After all, she remembered reading somewhere that actions speak louder than words.

Eventually, Theodore couldn't even be bothered with words.

If her uncle's family cared for her because they wanted the Liang property, and Theodore cared for her because she was his fiance at the time ... then what about James Lu?

Was he doing this because she was legally his wife?

That didn't seem to be the case. A person like him usually wouldn't even cast a second glance at someone he didn't care about. But she knew her place. She knew that he didn't care about her. She knew perfectly well from the beginning that he married her for a different reason.

Perhaps ... he was just suddenly guilty because of how she blocked the ball for him.

But...

Elizabeth still felt touched.

She thought about how he arrogantly declared that he could pay for the entire golf course even if she scraped it all up, and how he told off Josephine instead of her when she missed the ball twice, and how he clumsily wiped her tears, and worried that she would accidentally flash herself even in his fit of rage...
