There was no way in hell that anyone could continue eating now.
Made of stone? Didn't know how to take the initiative? How the f*ck was he supposed to take the initiative? They slept in separate rooms and had no feelings for each other, was he supposed to force her like some kind of animal?
James Lu put down his bowl and chopsticks and closed his eyes, speechless. "Dear Mrs. Song, with all due respect, do you really believe that it's appropriate for you to say that in front of your son?"
"Hehe..." Lydia Song chuckled. "I just really, really want a grandchild! You know how adorable Mrs. Lee's grandson is!"
"So?" James tried to be patient. "Just because Mrs. Lee has a grandson, I have to hurry up and give you one too?"
"Of course! That would be wonderful! You and Elizabeth got married because you two are in love, right? You've always been pretty naughty and annoying since you were a kid, but you've always listened to me. You wouldn't turn down this tiny little request from mommy, would you?" As Lydia said this, she made a gesture with her fingers.
"We're not..." James almost blurted out that they weren't in love, but held it back at the tip of his tongue.
He thought for a moment and continued, "Did you forget that your daughter-in-law is still in school? Do you think it's sensible for her to get pregnant right now? Do you want her to throw away her studies?"
"Uh..." Lydia froze for a second, thinking that what James said did make sense. But in the blink of an eye, she retorted, "It's no big deal if she got pregnant, it's not like our family can't afford to support them. Besides..."
"Besides WHAT? Besides nothing!" Not wanting to continue this topic, James got up and left the table.
He walked over to the couch and sat down. Feeling a little upset, he lit a cigarette for himself.
Pregnancy? A baby? With that dumba*s woman Elizabeth Liang? Was she joking?
******
Lydia didn't eat much before she asked James to drive her back home.
When she was about to leave she looked at Elizabeth, who was at the door to send her off, and wanted to say something to her. But when she saw her son's impatient expression, she just stomped her foot a few times, then turned around and went out.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Elizabeth went to her room.
She opened her bag and took out the shirt which James had used to wipe her bloody nose today. Although he told her to throw it away, for some reason she secretly stuffed it into her bag and brought it back.
Elizabeth soaked the shirt in soap water at the sink and washed it several times with warm water to make sure that it was perfectly clean. She sniffed it to check for any remaining odors before she wrung it dry in satisfaction.
She looked up at herself in the mirror. Holding his shirt in her hands, she suddenly recalled what happened in the classroom this afternoon...
If James didn't stop, would they have... kissed?
Elizabeth reached out to caress her small rosy lips and couldn't help but imagine the scene of him kissing her inside her head. Even though he was always so mean and driving her crazy, what would it feel like to be kissed by him?
Not to mention how Mrs. Song dropped the baby bomb just now...
Ahhhhh! It's so embarrassing!
Elizabeth could feel her face beginning to heat up again at the thought. It took her a while to realize that she was giggling stupidly like a lovestruck teenage girl in the mirror!
"Oh my god!" Elizabeth immediately slapped her burning face and grumbled, "Elizabeth! What the hell are you thinking about you pervert?"
She had to stop!
Elizabeth shook her head hard, then found a clothes hanger to dry the shirt on.
They had a separate balcony just for drying clothes and bedsheets, but she looked at the shirt in her hand and thought for a moment before she eventually decided to hang it on a window handle in her room. James was somewhat of a neat freak, if he saw that Elizabeth brought the shirt back instead of throwing it away, he might end up throwing another tantrum at her.
Before hanging it up, Elizabeth carefully patted the shirt to prevent it from wrinkling.
A button was still missing from the shirt. She had to find a suitable button as a replacement.
As soon as she hung up the shirt, she heard someone hitting the door to her room.
"Thump, thump, thump—"
Elizabeth paused. She looked at the door, then at the shirt, then went to open the door.
However, out of a guilty conscience, she only opened the door to a crack. She peeped through the crack and her eyes squinted as she smiled. "You're back? Mom's home?"
James looked through the small gap and raised his eyebrows at her. "What are you doing this for?" With this, he reached out and was about to push the door.
"Hey!" Elizabeth yelped and pressed her entire weight against the door. Fearing that James was going to force his way through, she shouted in the spur of the moment, "Don't come in! I... I'm not wearing pants!"
"..." James stopped, and then scowled at her. "Ahem... get dressed and come to my study!"
As soon as he turned around, Elizabeth slammed the door shut and leaned against it, letting out a huge sigh of relief.
She dawdled in her room for quite some time before she headed to the study.
James was sitting behind the desk and seemed to be working on something. Although he was in a set of loungewear, he didn't look out of place at all. In fact, he looked like a top college student who was busy revising his material.
"Um..." Elizabeth closed the door. "You wanted to talk to me?"
Hearing Elizabeth, James put down the file in his hand and looked at her, with his head slightly tilted. "What do you think?"
"..." Why would she ask him if she knew already? She wasn't that bored.
