Brian stared at Cornelia, then said slowly after a moment of silence, "You're pretty scary."
"Ms? Scary?" Cornelia didn't turn her head, her eyes still fixed on the big screen. The scene was gruesome, but Cornelia thought it was far less terrifying than the human heart.
She continued, "So you guys want me to just let those who bully me continue to do so? I don't fight back and then you think I'm a good girl?"
Brian was stunned, momentarily at a loss for words.
Cornelia let out a small laugh, "I've never intended to hurt anyone, or even thought about how to harm you. Today, I've merely been responding to your provocations. If anyone's scary, it's you. Now you're saying I'm scary. Is it because I'm not scared of you? Or because I'm not a weak girl who just lets others bully her?"
"I didn't really want to do anything to you. I just wanted to test you." Brian said.
"Test what?" Cornelia asked.
"Character, courage, intelligence, and so on. The Duran family isn't ordinary. To live in such a family, you have to be extra careful, or you might not even know how you've failed. You've passed the tests of courage and wisdom, and I'm ready to officially accept you as a member of the Duran family." Brian said.
"You're ready to accept me as a member of the Duran family?" Cornelia chuckled, "Brian, whether or not I become a member of the Duran family isn't up to you, nor anyone else. Only I can decide."
Brian said, "You were born and raised outside, in a normal family. You haven't been exposed to a big family like the Durans. You don't know the complexities here. Everyone, including us, has to face various tests from birth. Only those who pass these tests can really be accepted by the family."
Cornelia wasn't interested, "The complexity of the Duran family has nothing to do with me, and I don't care. All I care about is Grandpa Augustine."
After finishing her words, Cornelia stood up, "Thanks for your hospitality today, but I think I'll head back now."
Brian quickly stopped her, "You haven't had lunch yet. If you leave now, Grandpa Augustine will surely blame us."
"Don't worry, I won't badmouth you." Cornelia said.
