Zack pondered for a moment. She had lost her parents at a young age and was often referred to as an omen. She might not have been able to survive if she hadn't persevered.
"Why don't you head home and get some rest," Cornelia shooed him off.
Zack, concerned for Cornelia, didn't want her to be alone. "I'd like to stick around for a bit, if that's okay with you."
"Alright."
They both leaned back against the couch, half-reclined, staring up at the ceiling.
After a moment of silence, Zack started, "Cornelia..."
"Hmm?"
"We haven't done anything terrible over the years, right?" Zack's voice was barely a whisper.
"Of course not," Cornelia replied.
"Then why have we had to deal with so much crap? Abby got mixed up with a bad dude, you did too. And me, I've been looking for a girlfriend but I'm still flying solo."
Cornelia chuckled, "Maybe we're just magnets for shady characters."
"And me? Am I single because there's something wrong with me?" Zack joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Cornelia laughed, "There's nothing wrong with you. Plenty of girls are into you, you just haven't found the one you're into."
