Impulsive Vow to an Enigmatic Husband novel Chapter 1251

"Even a three-year-old kid knows what's important, at least they know to follow instructions." Even when drunk, Cornelia remembered that Marcus never gave his health a second thought.

"Look at him! No matter how much I nag, he never learns to take care of himself. Always putting work above food and rest." Cornelia's voice was getting angrier, "I've told him over and over again, he's not made of steel! He's a flesh and blood human being. He can get sick. He can feel pain."

"You're absolutely right." Ben said, "No matter how powerful President Hartley is in the business world, no matter how strong his business skills are, he's just a flesh and blood human being like us when facing illness. He can get sick, feel pain, he..."

Suddenly, Ben stopped talking. Over the phone, his heavy breathing and a low growl like a small animal, as if he was trying hard to hide some emotion.

Cornelia was drunk, too. If she hadn't been, she would have noticed something different about Ben. Not knowing what was going on with Ben, a drunk Cornelia kept mumbling, "Ben, you have to know that Marcus was seriously shot once. Because he didn’t get appropriate treatment in time, he was left with some after-effects. This illness makes his hand always cold, sometimes even as cold as ice. You have to remind him, especially when the weather is cold, to keep himself warm and not to freeze."

Ben was with Marcus for many years and was present when Marcus was injured. Being a part of it, he knew better than Cornelia how serious Marcus's injury was, and he understood how dangerous the whole thing was.

But so many years had passed, he seldom saw Marcus feeling unwell, so he thought Marcus's wounds had healed. Only recently, he found out that Marcus's condition was much more serious than what he saw.

Ben suddenly said very seriously, "Cornelia, you are the best girl I have ever met. If President Hartley could hear what you said, I think he would be very happy."

Cornelia drunkenly said, "Then let Marcus pick up the phone. I want to tell him. I can tell him whatever he wants to hear."

Ben wished Marcus could pick up the phone, but at the moment, Marcus was critically ill, and no one knew if he could make it. He took a deep breath, "President Hartley is temporarily unable to answer your call. If he could, he would definitely answer your call as soon as possible."

Cornelia laughed again, "Ha-ha, I'm just joking, don’t take it seriously. I just remembered, Marcus and I are divorced, we don't have any relationship anymore. I'm just an insignificant ex-wife to him now, I shouldn't interfere in his business."

Upon hearing Cornelia's words, Ben immediately began to explain, "Cornelia, there is a reason for everything Marcus does. Don't blame him, okay?"

"Blame him? What right do I have to blame him?" Cornelia was drunk and dizzy, lost in her own world, talking non-stop, "Where did he go? Where is he? Let him talk to me. I'm not going to eat him, why does he have to hide from me?"

Ben knew why, but he didn't dare to say it, so he remained silent.

At this point, Cornelia suddenly switched topics, "I worked my ass off to get the position of CEO's assistant, but he dismissed me with a single word and gave my job to a newcomer who just joined the company. And that newcomer was my sister, Tahlia. Everyone, including me at first, thought he did this only because of me. But not long after, things started to spiral out of control. We divorced."

Ben knew in his heart that things hadn't spiraled out of control; everything was under Marcus's control, all within his plans.

Even, Marcus had anticipated that Cornelia would file for divorce. The only thing Marcus hadn't anticipated was that Cornelia filed for divorce earlier than he had expected.

Ben said, "Cornelia, go on."
