Dr. Dawson got it, but what mom wouldn't worry about her son, right? Every time she thought about her son living in danger everyday, her heart would feel like it was dangling mid-air, all jumpy.
She gently traced the terrifying scar on Ayden's face and said, "You're one tough cookie."
That scar was from a few years back when Ayden took one for Marcus. He had got more scars than just that one. Back then, if they hadn't been lucky. They could've both kicked the bucket right there in the States, gunned down by some thugs.
Ayden pushed her hand away, "Stop crying, mom. I ain't scared of a little pain."
Dr. Dawson wiped her tears, took a deep breath and said, "You're right. We chose this path. We gotta stay loyal to the boss, even if it costs us our lives."
Ayden just nodded.
Dr. Dawson continued, "I think Marc's thing for Cornelia is more than just 'cause she's his wife. He truly digs her. You gotta look out for her more. Can't have stuff like what happened tonight happening again."
Ayden just nodded again.
Dr. Dawson knew Ayden's style. He didn't talk much. It was usually just her talking and him listening attentively.
She added, "If Marc hadn't been quick to send backup and hopped on his private jet to Woodpine in time, Cornelia might've been snatched by Zavier. That guy's bad news. If he'd gotten what he wanted, it would've been a real doozy trying to get Cornelia back."
Ayden just said, "I got it."
Dr. Dawson lifted her head and once again saw that shocking scar on his face. No matter how many times she saw it, it always stung her heart, "You gotta keep that medicine I gave you on you at all times. It could save your hide."
