Steven quickly served Hannah some dishes, "Babe, you should eat more, need to keep your strength up. Don't be nodding off before the party's over."
He always did this, airing their dirty laundry in public, always making her cringe. At first, Hannah minded and reminded him to cut it out. But when he didn't, she eventually became immune to it, as if the woman he was talking about was not her.
Nevertheless, Hannah subconsciously looked at the person who mattered to her. Cornelia was also staring at her, their eyes meeting in the air. Cornelia opened her mouth, wanting to say something. But Hannah smiled at her, as if to reassure her that everything was fine.
To save Hannah any embarrassment, Cornelia looked away and continued to serve Marcus, taking care of him with the same dedication as when she was his assistant.
Steven served Hannah more food, "Babe, did you see that? Cornelia's still fussing over Marc like a secretary. Marc doesn't respect her the way you think he does."
Steven was right, Cornelia was taking care of Marcus. But it was clear to anyone with eyes that Cornelia was happily doing so.
Hannah watched Cornelia and Marcus, unable to look away, when Steven's pleasant but chilly voice came again, "Babe, your eyes are so pretty, especially those bright eyeballs of yours. What if you lose them?"
Hannah looked away, sighed softly, "I envy Cornelia."
Steven asked, "Do you like a guy like Marc?"
Hannah answered, "Who wouldn't like a man who is handsome, rich, and genuinely loves and respects his wife?"
