When the word came out of his mouth, it was like the most beautiful melody in the world, deep and sexy, intoxicating. Last night, he called her "darling" in that voice, asking her to call him the same. She was completely mesmerized by him. Whatever he asked her to do, she did.
He said again, "Call me darling one more time!"
Cornelia suddenly jumped out of his arms, "We're at work...you can't do this."
Marcus, amused by her blushing, said, "Don't worry, I know. Let's have breakfast."
Marcus started to get her breakfast, but Cornelia stopped him, "You go do your work, I can eat by myself. I don't want people to say that I'm the kind of woman who ruins men's careers."
Marcus chuckled indulgently and had to go back to the office.
Cornelia went back to the room and changed into the pajamas he had prepared for her, then came out to continue eating breakfast.
While eating breakfast, she called Abigail, "Abby, are you back in Riverton yet?"
Abigail answered, "I'm taking the 4 p.m. train and will be there tonight. What's up? Miss me already after just a few days?"
Cornelia answered, "Of course I miss you."
Abigail asked, "Anything else besides missing me? Spill it."
Cornelia asked shyly, "Do you know about ovulation?"
Abigail said, "Why are you asking this if Marcus has a problem? Are you really thinking about getting a young lover?"
Cornelia was speechless.
