Abigail usually seemed pretty ballsy, and wasn’t scared to say anything. But when it came to shady business, her moral compass was straighter than anyone else's. Right now, she was all worked up worrying about Cornelia making some dumb decisions. "Cornelia, if you don't want to divorce, you definitely can't go messing around with other men. If you end up pregnant with some other guy's kid, do you think President Hartley would let that slide?
When Cornelia didn’t respond, Abigail continued, "I don't know if he'd let it slide, but if I were him, I definitely couldn't."
Cornelia, "Is that what you really think of me deep down in your heart?"
Abigail, "Of course not, in my eyes, you're just like me. All bark and no bite. We just talk big to entertain ourselves."
Cornelia, "Yet you still doubt me."
Abigail, "It's your own words that got me worried. Just tell me you're pulling my leg."
Cornelia took a sip of milk, then said slowly, "Why couldn't my child be President Hartley's?"
Abigail, "President Hartley's kid? I thought he had issues, how could he get you pregnant? Did you guys do something special? If that's the case, you'll suffer more than the average pregnant woman...
"There was once a beautiful actress who tried every trick in the book to marry into a wealthy family but was kicked out not long after because she couldn't have a baby. These rich women seem to have no freedom, just being baby-making machines for wealthy families. I never thought my best friend would face the same issue one day."
Cornelia couldn't stand Abigail's wild imagination. "I'll conceive naturally... the Hartley family doesn't have so many issues."
