Outside the office door, Cornelia could hear the commotion inside.
First up was a staff from the management office, "We already checked the surveillance footage of the three exits. Your kid didn't leave the community. He must be somewhere around. We'll help find him immediately."
A woman chimed in, her voice choked with tears, "Can you send more people to help find him? If anything happened to my son, I wouldn't be able to live."
Before the woman could finish, she was cut off sternly by a man, "You're all frantic now, but what were you doing earlier? Our kid is still so little, how could you leave him alone at home?"
The woman, already on the verge of tears, felt even more guilty after the man's rebuke. She sobbed and said, "He fell asleep and then I went downstairs to buy sanitary pads. I came back right after buying them. I didn’t dilly-dally. But when I came back, he was gone from the bed. Usually, he sleeps for several hours at a stretch. I had no idea."
The man snapped, "You keep saying you had no idea. Do you have any useful information at all?"
The staff, fearing the man might lash out physically at the woman, hastily stepped in, "Sir, your wife surely didn't intend for this to happen. Let's not lose our heads. Finding the kid is the priority."
The woman was visibly shaken and heartbroken, but she dared not sob out loud.
"Mama." The little boy heard his mother's voice, slid off from Marcus and ran towards her.
"My son." Hearing the familiar voice, the woman's eyes lit up. She opened her arms to embrace her child, but he was stopped by a sudden pair of arms.
The man held the little boy tight, kissed his face, "You scared the living daylights out of me! I thought you were taken by some bad guys."
