Tahlia also found the idea hard to swallow. "I know how much you hate her, but I think the odds of this are nearly zero," she said.
"Why?" asked Cornelia.
"Why would she pretend to be our mother? What's the point in pretending to be our mother? I've been around her for many years, and I know that to her, profit is more important than anything else. If she's pretending to be our mother, it's probably because the identity of our mother could bring her benefits. But over these years, she hasn't gained any advantages from this identity."
Tahlia’s analysis made sense, and Cornelia said disappointedly, "Yeah, what's the point in her pretending to be our mother?"
Cornelia thought about it, hoping she could suddenly understand and find the possibility of Clair pretending to be their mother. Unfortunately, she herself found the idea absurd. How could one person possibly become another person without being recognized? That was super tricky.
She didn't want to accept she had such a cold-hearted mother, so she thought that this woman was not their biological mother and naively hoped that she’s just a wicked woman who was pretending.
Cornelia chuckled helplessly, "I guess I'm being too childish."
Tahlia held Cornelia's hand, "If you have doubts about her identity, we can secretly do a paternity test."
Cornelia immediately perked up, "You're right, we should find a way to verify if we have doubts. When we get back to Riverton, we'll find a way to get a sample from her for a DNA test."
Tahlia replied, "Okay."
......
Cornelia took Tahlia straight from the airport to the cemetery to mourn their grandparents and father. Their three graves were together, which made it easier to mourn.
