Lycan King's Unloved Mate novel Chapter 1

Brielle

*

I looked at my stepmom, Emaline, and my stepsister, Jade, raising my eyebrow to find the reason behind this sudden dinner meeting that my father, Alpha Warren Lopez of Embermoon Pack, had called.

‘I don’t know, Bri,’ Jade's mind linked, and I saw Mom shrugging her shoulder as well. So, it looked like only Dad knew why we were called here.

"Honey, what’s the matter?" Mom asked softly.

"Eat,"

I pressed my lips tightly together when he not only dodged Mom’s question but also rudely responded to her. My fist tightened around the fork.

"Don’t talk to Mom like that," I said, glaring at him.

"Bri, it’s between us," Mom said, trying to calm my anger. Even though she was my stepmother, I loved her no less than my own mother, who died fourteen years ago.

At the same time, the old man sitting around the table was my biological father, but I hated him more than anything. If I had one reason to hate, then I would have told everyone, but this man had given me multiple reasons.

He first abandoned my mother because she gave birth to me as a girl and then couldn’t conceive again. After that, he married Emaline Mom for political reasons; she already had a daughter, Jade, from a previous marriage. He thought his sun might shine now, but unfortunately, even she couldn’t conceive. In the end, it was revealed that the person who rejected my mother had defects in himself.

I huffed in annoyance and focused on my dinner. I doubt that this meeting had anything to do with me; after all, my so-called father never cared for me or my mother.

I wondered why she loved him so much, even on her deathbed, when she asked me to work on my relationship with my father.

"I’ve received a marriage alliance from Tristan Deacon, older brother of Lycan King of Moonlit Guardians, for my daughter, and I’ve accepted it," he said, more like stated. He had already made his decision. I didn’t bother to react, knowing he was talking about Jade.

Not me.

After all, why would any Lycan send a wedding proposal to a woman who didn’t have her wolf?

Yes, that was true. My mother was human. That was why I was half human and half werewolf. I could mindlink like a werewolf, but I couldn’t shift like a werewolf.

Dad took me to a lot of oracles to find out why I couldn’t shift. That was when they told him either I didn’t have a wolf soul or my wolf soul was too weak to make an appearance because of the human blood in my system.

"Congratulations, Jade," I said, winking at her. We both hadn’t found our mate, so getting married to the person who showed interest in her wasn’t a bad thing.

"It’s for you, Bri," Dad said, and the color of my face paled. I blinked at him twice, not able to believe that what I just heard was true. "The marriage proposal was for you, and I agreed.

"HOW COULD YOU? I yelled at him, slamming my hand on the table and standing on my feet. "I’m nineteen, and you can’t make decisions on my behalf," I added, and I was about to leave when he used his Alpha command.

"Return back to your seat and finish your dinner.”

I hissed in anger but couldn’t go against his command. I angrily had my dinner thinking about my boyfriend, Jameson Bowman, who had been my boyfriend for the last two years. I wanted to tell Dad about him, but what was the use of that?

I knew he wouldn’t approve it because Jameson was the son of the Rogue King and was allowed in our territory for a year because of the program launched by the Lycan King to give a chance to the future rogue leader to lead his pack in a better way.

He returned to his pack after a year, but by then we were already in love with each other.

After dinner, I returned to my room, not knowing what to do now.

How could my own father do this to me?

I was in love with Jameson. I couldn’t marry someone else. While I was thinking all this, Mom walked into my room with a sympathetic smile on her face.
