The largest tent in the center of the military camp was where Iris was being held, bound, and guarded.
Gadel shoved aside the Minister of Military Affairs, who was about to pull back the curtains, and strode in with the commanding presence of an emperor. In an instant, his expression darkened again, and he turned his simmering wrath toward the minister. "If you can't give me a good explanation, you'd better resign and start farming your own land."
The minister hurried inside and looked around the tent, where only the Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Princes were tied up. Panicked, he said, "Forgive me, Your Majesty. I swear I had Iris bound here earlier. Wait, they must know something!" His gaze shot to the three bound princes.
Gadel looked at his so-called brothers, his grim expression suddenly softening like a warm sun breaking through the clouds. He walked over and crouched beside them, speaking gently. "Dear brothers, tell me where Iris went. I miss her dearly."
His kind smile did nothing to ease the princes' fear; instead, they began to tremble uncontrollably, because Gadel's Eagle Sword hovered right at their throats…
"G-Gadel, that woman Iris was rescued by a soldier."
Gadel said nothing, but he instantly knew where Iris would be. "Minister, didn't you hear my dear brothers? Get ready for battle."
"Yes, Your Majesty. I'll prepare immediately."
The Minister of Military Affairs left the tent, finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. The pressure Gadel exerted was immense, greater than anything he had ever felt, even under the late King Gawain I.
Meanwhile, Iris and the soldier were racing through the wilderness.
"Why haven't we reached the forward command post yet?" Iris panted.
