"Now, do you understand?" James asked as he turned toward Helen after failing to stop Clara's escape.
Helen's face alternated between shades of red and pale. Even she could no longer deny it—Clara had been lying all along. All those stories about knowing Matthew and their supposed relationship were nothing but fabrications.
James glanced at Miller, who was hastily making his exit. There was something odd about how quickly his nephew left, and he couldn't shake off the feeling that, much like Clara, Miller was in a hurry to escape. Even if Matthew found out about the Cunningham Family's schemes, would the consequences really be that severe?
Miller, now outside the villa, hurriedly dialed a number. "Hurry! Book us flights to leave Seraphis now! We can't stay here any longer!" His voice shook with fear. He hadn't expected Matthew to return so quickly.
While he could maintain composure in front of Helen and James, he couldn't bring himself to face Matthew directly. Matthew's reputation and power had grown far too large.
A few minutes later, his phone rang again. One of the guards accompanying him answered nervously, "Sir, all of Hulwin's airports have been shut down to us. We can't leave the city. If I hadn't acted fast, they would have detained me!"
Miller trembled upon hearing the news. "Stay calm. Find somewhere to hide for now and wait for my instructions."
After ending the call, Miller looked down at the folder in his hands, hesitation flickering in his eyes. To Helen, I'm still the obedient, trustworthy nephew. If I hand over this contract, Matthew might not harm me, especially with her around. But even if he spares me here, what will happen to me once I return to Bainbridge?
Miller's expression hardened, a dark resolve settling in his gaze. Better to take the risk than to be doomed.
With that, he pulled out his phone and dialed his grandfather.
"Grandfather, Matthew's back in Hulwin. This is his territory, and now the whole city's airports are locked down. We can't leave. If I can't make it back… please take care of yourself." Miller's voice quivered as though he were on the verge of tears, though his expression remained cold and calculating.
There was a brief silence on the other end before Terrance's gentle voice responded, "Miller, find somewhere to hide for now. See if you can send the contract back to us quickly so Matthew can't do anything to you. Don't worry—I'll do everything I can to keep you safe. I'm waiting for you to return."
In Bainbridge, inside the old Cunningham Manor, Terrance hung up the phone, his face grim as he reassured Miller. He wasn't worried about Miller's safety—his concern was solely for the contract. As long as that contract for S&L's Breakfast was secured, the Cunningham Family would be able to swiftly dominate the market nationwide.
After a moment's thought, Terrance made another call. When the line connected, he spoke quickly, "You already know why I'm calling. The time has come. Come to the Cunningham Manor immediately. And get in touch with the Lullaby Family."
"Understood," came the deep voice from the other end, and then the call ended.
About ten minutes later, an elderly man dressed in black arrived at the Cunningham Manor. It was none other than the patriarch of the Damron Family.
