Chapter 257 Heartbeat
Adam didn't back down and kept downing one glass after another.
After years of being a lone wolf, today was the first time he enjoyed a meal and drinks with a friend and was content.
The two men just kept drinking, and after finishing two bottles of wine, Adam was no longer sober. His vision had become blurry.
He shook his head, feeling even less coherent.
"I can't drink anymore... Can't keep drinking..."
Adam didn't want to continue, but Remington slammed the table. "Admit that you've lost... You can't outdrink me..."
"I lost... You won..."
Adam admitted it, but he spoke in broken sentences. After that, he ended up sprawled on the table.
"Adam!"
Cecelia called his name several times, but he didn't wake up. "He's really drunk!"
Remington grabbed Cecelia's hand, his speech slurred. "Cece... he's drunk... I'm not... I won..."
After saying this, Remington also collapsed onto the table.
Both men were utterly drunk. Cecelia shook her head and sighed.
She had to call Fredric and Verda to come pick them up.
After about half an hour, Fredric and Verda arrived one after the other.
"Miss Linsey, what happened to Mr. Nelson?"
Fredric entered and was surprised to see two men slumped over the table. He asked in surprise.
"He's drunk. Help me get him back."
"Alright."
Fredric had never seen Remington drunk before. Even in a bad mood, he had never been this intoxicated.
Besides, Mr. Nelson had a high tolerance for alcohol. How did he manage to get drunk today?
After Fredric helped Remington leave, Verda arrived a few minutes later. "Miss Linsey!"
"Adam is drunk. Can you take him to the hotel, get a room for him, and let him rest?"
"Sure."
Verda supported Adam out of the restaurant, and Cecelia followed them.
She left Verda to handle Adam and headed to the Nelson family's estate to pick up her child.
When she returned to the estate, Fredric had already taken Remington to his room upstairs. As Cecelia passed by, she heard Remington vomiting.
Seeing Fredric a bit flustered, she entered the room. "I'll take care of him."
"Alright, Miss Linsey."
Fredric made way for her, and Cecelia sat beside Remington, patting his back.
Remington was struggling with nausea but couldn't vomit. Cecelia sighed lightly, saying, "I told you not to drink so much, but you insisted. Now you're suffering, aren't you?"
Hearing Cecelia's voice, Remington said in a daze, "Cece..."
His big hand waved, and Cecelia reached out to catch it. He then pressed her hand against his chest.
"Cece is mine... mine..."
Observing the scene, Fredric thought he probably wasn't needed there and quietly exited the room.
He understood now that Mr. Nelson was likely not as drunk as he seemed; he was just seeking sympathy.
"How do you feel now? Still uncomfortable? Should I make you some sobering soup?"
Cecelia was about to leave, but Remington suddenly pulled her back.
Cecelia was caught off guard and fell against his chest, caught between his strong arms.
"Don't go, Cece..."
Cecelia stayed still, and through Remington's shirt, she could hear his strong heartbeat and feel his warm body.
"Cece... My Cece looks... so beautiful..."
The man was drunk and kept rambling.
