Chapter 68 Pulling the Plug, Cecelia Caught Him Off Guard
Harry Copper, Ophelia Linsey's brother, led a group of people into the restaurant and, in a groveling tone, said, "Mr. Banks, this way, please!"
Of this Mr. Banks, Cecelia was somewhat aware. He was Whisker Banks, an infamous business badass and helmer of the Banks family, one of the four new moneys in the Center City.
Wearing a natty suit, Banks looked extraordinary with a poker face, walking without glancing around.
Like a lackey, Harry Copper was currying favor with Banks, saying, "Mr. Banks, I appreciate it that you deigned to come over tonight. We're gonna walk through the details of the project this time, and I guarantee you Linsey Corp. is the best choice you'll never regret making!"
Cecelia watched it herself that Harry Copper led Banks and his followers into a luxury booth.
It was the moment she knew Harry Copper was wooing business from Banks Corp., reaching a partnership between the two families.
Since Harry Copper was trying so hard to impress Gary Linsey, she surely would give him a hand.
As Ariella went to the bathroom, Cecelia dialed Upton Chase's number and told, "Upton, I need you to help me out with a thing. Please contact Mr. Banks of Banks Corp right now..."
After she finished the call, Ariella came out and asked, "Cecelia, you don't need to use the toilet?"
"I don't."
"Cool. Let's get back to the booth."
Ariella came to hold Cecelia's hand, and they went back to the booth together.
Shepard Nuno the short fuse had finished ordering dishes, and the waiters began bringing in plates when the two ladies returned.
Looking at this feast of fat things, Ariella awkwardly complained, "Shepard, you're least considerate. You know I'm a bite of meat away from a fat girl, yet still, you ordered my favorites. You did it on purpose!"
Shepard Nuno chuckled, "They aren't meant for you! You can just watch them!"
"No way! What a feast! You ordered them just for my Cece?"
Shepard smiled but said nothing, and Ariella talked to Cecelia, "Cece, see how well my brother caters to you? Well, please consider being my sister-in-law!"
Ariella had long been thinking about Cecelia marrying her brother, so at the moment, it was so nice for her to set up this man and woman.
"Sorry, I'm afraid not."
"Why? My brother doesn't look terrible! Sure, he's been single all the time, but that's because..."
Shepard stepped in at the exact second and said, "Alright, cut it. Cecelia and I are best friends now, and you don't know that she's married now."
"What?" Ariella was so shocked her jaws dropped.
Having collected her mind, Ariella let out sighs nonstop and couldn't help but asked, "Who? Who is Cece married to?"
"Remington Nelson, the second Young Master of the Nelson family," Shepard answered.
"Remington Nelson? The one that had a car accident some time ago?"
Ariella had learned about it through the phone with her family. Then, a thought hit her and she asked, "Wait, let me set this straight. It's said he's in a vegetable state, and you married him just to bring him the blessing. Did you throw yourself into a fire pit?"
The idea that her best friend could be a widow for the rest of her life made her sorry for her.
"Don't do that, Cece. You're so young. Why couldn't you have had a second thought before marrying him?"
"Reportedly, he'll kick the bucket at any minute. This marriage granted you no happiness from the very beginning!"
Shepard interrupted, "Ariella, stop. Mr. Nelson is awake now. He went to get checked in the hospital today, and he's recovered in good condition. I saw it myself."
"Recovering in good condition means he ain't fully recovered yet. Cece wouldn't be happy marrying him!"
Ariella was acting like an officious old lady and continued, "Cece. don't be silly. Can you get an early divorce and give my brother a chance? My brother will be nicer to you than Nelson, except he isn't that rich!"
Ariella was at team Shepard, definitely the sister of all time.
But it also contained some of her pity for Cecelia because, on top of her tough life, she got into a bad marriage. She felt more sorry for Cecelia.
Cecelia knew her good friend meant well, so chuckled, "Well, stop worrying about me. You should worry about yourself instead."
But Ariella resisted it. She was urged to return home this time only because of the blind date that her family arranged for her.
