Paul nodded slowly. "It's possible. The car accident was very serious. I vaguely remember Mr. Martin rolling down the hill. We weren't wearing seatbelts at the time, and I ended up being thrown under the car."
As Paul recalled and described the accident, the scene vividly formed in Skylar's mind.
After finishing, Paul continued to stare at the phone. "Ned had a girlfriend. There's no way she wouldn't notice the difference between them. I mean, someone being nearsighted or not is such an obvious thing. How could no one notice for three years?" Paul asked, clearly puzzled.
Now, Paul was fully alert, his mind sharp. He began to connect the dots, noticing inconsistencies that stood out. As Skylar heard him, her expression shifted in shock.
She thought, "Yeah… someone so close… how could they not have noticed?"
So, Rosa must have known for a long time but chose not to reveal it. She never told Joe about her suspicions either. "Mr. Martin didn't die… Mr. Martin is really alive, and we both made it back to Jipsburg.
"No way! I have to go to work tomorrow, or else Mr. Matin might get mad and send me on a business trip to Aglana. I don't want to go." Paul's voice became frantic.
"Let's discharge now." Paul's voice began to drift as he spoke, as if lost in confusion, struggling to distinguish between the past and present.
When he reached the doorway of the ward, Paul clutched his head and crouched down. "I just need to hold on. If I do, I can escape. Then I'll make it back to Jipsburg and tell Mrs. Martin everything we went through. Mr. Martin kept thinking about her until his last moment."
Skylar's eyes brimmed with tears as she watched Paul's mind unravel again. She stepped forward and said softly, "You did escape. Joe is still alive, and now, please rest quietly here in the hospital, okay?"
