Maisy was like a ticking time bomb. Although Janine had reported her a few days back, the police needed concrete evidence, so it wasn't something that could be resolved in a day or two.
The thought of her behavior left them feeling nauseated.
At the mention of Maisy, Steven's tone turned icy. "No updates for now. But don't worry, she hasn't tried to see Mom lately and won't get a chance to. The security guards at the complex and Sullance Group know who she is and won't let her get close. As for Charles and me, she probably realizes bothering us is pointless."
With Maisy, there was no room for compassion.
"I still feel a bit uneasy. Maisy isn't the type to stay put. You both need to stay on guard," Skylar said.
"Alright. Don't worry about things here. Just take care of yourself, and let me know if anything comes up." Steven reassured her, his concern evident in his tone.
Skylar smiled. "Got it."
Skylar and Steven chatted briefly, then hung up. Just then, Skylar noticed that the message she had sent Joe, which had gone unanswered for so long, was now marked as read. Although he hadn't responded, it felt like a good sign to her.
Staring at the chat window, she wanted to say something but was suddenly at a loss for words. She wondered how much of what she had told him he had believed. Joe hadn't reached out in the last couple of days, and she hadn't tried to contact him either.
This gave him a chance to process all the shocking information in his own time.
After thinking it over, she decided to send a single photo from their wedding album without adding any message.
