Maisy's mind raced as she thought, "Admitting mistakes? What remorse? What mistakes do I even have? Everyone else is to blame here!"
Janine noticed the rapid shift in Maisy's expression. While there was a hint of disappointment in her heart, it was overshadowed by a deep sigh.
After everything that had happened, Maisy still refused to believe she was at fault. Suddenly, Janine realized that this visit was pointless.
She said, "The police have gathered evidence of your crimes. I'm sure they've informed you about it. Even if you don't confess and have no intention of seeking forgiveness from the victims' families, you won't escape the law's judgment.
"Now you'll have plenty of time to reflect on the wrongs you've committed. You'd even drugged your brother's fiancée. Just how malicious can you be? Don't ever reach out to me again. I won't be coming back to see you."
Janine was utterly disappointed in Maisy. There was no saving for a person who had sunk so low.
All humans erred. The important part was recognizing and correcting them.
Maisy would need a lifetime to learn that lesson. When Maisy noticed Janine was preparing to leave, she began to wail. "Janine, may you suffer endlessly! What a hypocrite you are!"
She believed those who had died for her cause had met their end justly. "Janine, come back! Take me with you. I've done nothing wrong. I'll never believe I've made a mistake. It's you and them who are in the wrong."
She refused to accept being abandoned here, not wanting her future to be that of a useless person. "Janine, aren't you supposed to be so kind? You've donated so much money to poor students over the years, so why can't you give that money to me? Why won't you help find someone to treat me? You're nothing but a complete phony."
Maisy cursed wildly in her mind. But no matter how loudly she yelled or how hard she tried to get Janine's attention, she couldn't bring her back.
