Janine said, "Yes, I know. This is something that only we need to know."
She meant that it was best to keep it between them. There was no need for Skylar and Charles to find out. Maisy was someone whose very mention left a bad taste.
Even in death, her actions had left a dark and unforgotten impression. Maisy had harmed so many people, leaving countless families to pay the price for her cruelty. Whenever Steven thought that Maisy was his biological sister, he couldn't help but frown.
Janine nodded. "Yes, I know. Don't worry."
Still worried about Janine's feelings, Steven added, "Mom, Maisy brought this on herself. Don't let her trouble you."
Janine's eyes glistened slightly. "I know, but I can't help feeling a little sad."
"For her, maybe this is a relief," Steven said.
"Yes, maybe so."
Steven could tell that Janine's spirits weren't great. He had meant to discuss something else but decided against it.
First, he would investigate further and be certain before telling Janine and others anything. If he told them all now, it could raise their hopes, and if it turned out unfounded, it would only lead to disappointment.
Since Joe had managed to come back, Steven felt a glimmer of hope.
He wondered if that person might really be their father.
…
Later that evening, after showering, Skylar found herself in a bit of a dilemma. She had almost forgotten about the arrangements at Galaxy Villa, including whether she would be staying in the same bedroom as Joe or if they should sleep separately.
She had not quite made up her mind.
Fresh from the shower and still warm with steam, Joe walked straight over to her. Before she could react, he had lifted her onto the bed.
