Did Joe think she was delaying their divorce on purpose? The color drained from Skylar's face. She said, "I'll be staying here for three days at most. Then, I'll be heading back."
Caleb glanced at Joe, then his gaze slid back to Skylar. He picked up their subtle change in mood. Had they fallen out with each other?
Joe said nothing else and sat down. Skylar was silent too. If a stranger saw them now, they'd think Joe and Skylar were nothing more than friends. The air between them was frigid.
Paul felt his brain grind to a stop. What in the world was going on between Skylar and Joe? He asked Skylar when she would be coming home. He wasn't in a hurry to divorce her, was he?
Their flight lasted for an hour and a half. Skylar had closed her eyes before they even took off.
Caleb scratched his nose out borefrom. He snuck a peek at Joe. Then, he closed his eyes too.
Joe's silence made the air around him drop to sub-zero temperatures. Paul couldn't help but button up his coat. He was burning with curiosity. However, he didn't have the guts to ask.
They said nothing until the plane touched down.
Even while picking up their baggage from the carousel, everyone remained silent.
In the end, Skylar nodded at Joe before getting into the cab with Caleb. Paul heard Joe huff lightly.
"Mr. Martin, what's going on with you and Mrs. Mar—"
He swallowed the rest of his sentence when Joe shot him a deathly glare.
…
Caleb finally voiced his confusion in the cab. "Are you arguing with Joe?"
"No," stated Skylar. Her heart had been heavy ever since she saw Joe at the airport. Her marriage with Joe was coming to an end. They should've kept each other at a distance from the start.
