Skylar shot Joe a glance before heading off to change clothes.
After about ten minutes, the two of them got into the car.
On the car ride, Rowan called Joe. He had likely received a call from the hospital as well.
Joe took the call on speaker.
Rowan said, "Do you know Jenny had a car accident? I just got a call from the Apollo Hospital. They said they had contacted everyone else. Since you're listed as the first contact in her phone, I figured they must have reached out to you first."
Joe responded, "Yes, I'm on my way to the hospital."
Skylar glanced out the window, distracted and not really listening to their conversation.
Feeling that Skylar was too distant, Joe took her hand and intertwined his fingers with hers.
Skylar looked at their clasped hands and was puzzled by Joe's display of affection.
"I'm on my way to the hospital too. Since that's the case, you go ahead. I won't go. Oh, and by the way, Jenny has changed a lot in the four years since she went to college. You've done enough for her."
Rowan now thought the past few years were quite pointless. He realized he had been foolish for holding on to his obsession with Jenny.
He was probably too young and impulsive back then, always wanting to protect the vulnerable. Jenny had happened to present herself as someone who seemed weak, so he instinctively wanted to protect her.
When Rowan saw the face from downstairs that day, he later recalled that the person seemed older. But from where he stood, it was hard to see clearly.
In any case, Jenny had secrets.
Joe replied calmly, "Okay, I got it."
"Oh, one more thing… The Ruell family is also staying at Apollo Hospital. You might run into them. You… I don't like to meddle, but I have to say, Skylar is a great woman. That's all I wanted to say. Bye."
The call ended abruptly with a dial tone.
