Chapter 922
Skylar said, “I’m fine.”
She tried moving a little. Her strength was returning, but with the IV drip still in her arm, she couldn’t move too much.
Joe glanced at the IV bag. “About 20 minutes more, and it should be done.”
Skylar nodded, but something suddenly came to mind. She quickly said, “Christopher didn’t just randomly decide to kidnap me. Someone must have helped him, or he wouldn’t have been so brazen.”
“The police have already taken Christopher into custody. They’ve been looking into his role in Kenny and Maisy’s abduction. And after today, with his attempt to harm you, he’ll spend the rest of his life behind bars. I’ve already got Paul investigating who might’ve been helping him,” Joe said softly.
Skylar felt the tension in her chest ease slightly. “Thank you.”
“He went after my wife. There’s no way I’d let him get away with it. No need to thank me.” Joe’s brow furrowed
The word “wife” made Skylar’s heart skip a beat. Maybe the fear from earlier gave her a burst of courage, but she found herself asking, “Do you think there’s even a small chance you have feelings for me?

She sensed something had gone wrong. She wondered what had happened.
“Christopher… he committed suicide in his cell,” Joe said grimly.
Skylar was first taken aback, then she asked in a daze, But there’s no way a jail cell would allow someone to kill themselves. How did he manage it?”
“He suffocated himself with a pillow.” Joe’s voice was flat as he delivered the unsettling news.
Skylar fell silent, processing it all. She couldn’t believe Christopher had actually taken his own life.
Suffocating himself with a pillow took a terrifying amount of resolve. She wondered if he was so desperate to avoid facing prison and judgment.
“The leads Paul was following hit a dead end because of Christopher’s suicide,” Joe said quietly.
Skylar nodded thoughtfully.
O
“I’ll have someone keep investigating,” Joe added gently. He noticed the color still hadn’t returned to her face:
Skylar looked up at him. There was a trace of exhaustion in his usually sharp and composed features, his gaze steady and thoughtful on her.
Their eyes met, but the distance between them felt vast.
“No need to investigate further. Even if you do, you likely won’t find much. If someone pushed Christopher
