The security guard was aggressive to that child, which made the receptionist think she was there to cause trouble.
"There was a child..."
"Where is she?" Byron asked sullenly.
The receptionist became agitated. "The security guard threw her out."
Byron's face darkened suddenly.
"Don't worry, Mr. Crawford. I saw her at the corner of Gate 1 when I had lunch!" Someone hastened to say.
Byron hastened toward Gate No. 1.
At the very moment
when he arrived at Gate No. 1, Byron heard a man scolding, "Stop crying! This is a public space. You will only annoy others! Just get the hell out here, or I'll..."
The security guard waved his baton.
Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain coming from his lower back.
"What the fuck! Who..." The security guard turned his head and was startled to see the man behind him.
Byron ignored the security guard.
He looked sideways
and saw a little girl with red eyes.
She looked blankly at the security guard, who fell to the ground, and then at Byron.
Tears welled up in her eyes again.
Instead of weeping,
the girl burst out crying at the sight of Byron. "Byron..."
"Mia!"
Byron ran over.
"Did he hit you?" Byron asked anxiously.
Mia shook her head, her eyes full of tears and mouth still pouting.
"I called you..." Mia said while sobbing.
Byron's heart ached.
He picked up Mia, put her head on his shoulder, and patted her on the back. "I'm sorry, Mia. I will never miss your call in the future."
Mia put her arms around Byron's neck and began to cry broken-heartedly.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Crawford. I had no idea..."
The security guard was surprised to see Byron's reaction.
He would never believe that this child coming from nowhere wasn't lying when she claimed she knew Mr. Crawford.
Byron looked at him coldly.
