"I already had a sandwich," Athena replied. "Is there anything else you want to talk about?"
"After Aiden and Mia had their afternoon nap, we will head out to choose the furnishings for the kids' room. I'll send you the pictures later," Byron added.
"No need for that. Aiden and Mia can decide on their own," Athena responded.
With those two sentences said, an uncomfortable silence hung in the air.
"Before you leave, take Mia's water bottle with you, and watch Aiden closely too. He's skilled at enduring his pain. I need to get back to the meeting, so I'll talk to you later," she added.
After saying what she needed to, she ended the call.
Byron and Athena both stood frozen momentarily after the call ended. Byron then dialed another number to arrange things for Herbert.
On the other hand, Athena remained unfazed and returned to the conference room.
Mia and Aiden then came downstairs after their afternoon nap.
After saying goodbye to Rose, the family of three headed out the door.
During the car ride, Mia happily chatted with Aiden about Herbert, saying, "Aiden, I told Herbert that you are my brother. That's why it barks at you. It was saying hello!"
"When will you get better, Aiden? Herbert wants to play with you, too," Mia muttered.
Aiden reassured, "Aiden is already happy watching you both play."
"Don't worry, Aiden," Mia said reassuringly, patting her chest. "I'll become a great doctor when I grow up and cure you!"
Aiden looked at her, feeling touched, and asked, "How many letters did you learn today?"
Mia promptly hung her head low, losing all the bravado she had just shown about becoming a great doctor.
Mia was a truly remarkable child.
If one were to call her clumsy, her talent for colors and lines was astonishing.
If one were to call her intelligent, she couldn't learn ten words in three days, no matter how hard she tried.
