His words were like a sucker punch to the gut, almost too much to take in at once. After a while, I finally opened my mouth to say, "So, are you implying that Hendrix's accident has something to do with Sebastian?"
He curled his lip. "If this problem could be solved by guessing, your husband would have been saved long ago."
Tobias wasn't wrong. In the business world, there were no permanent enemies, nor were there permanent friends. It all boils down to profit. Everything else was secondary.
Gerald's billion- dollar, profitable business was handed over to Hendrix. People would do anything to have a slice of that pie. Human life was insignificant compared to untold riches.
"What should I do next?" I asked. I calmed down and cleared my thoughts.
He looked at me and said, "Call your men, find out Sebastian's movements over the past two days. Investigate the people he recently met with. Pay attention to the company and factories of the Milton family in Oakland too."
I nodded. Sheridan was waiting outside Tobias's villa and I was about to go out to relay the orders when Tobias stopped me. I blinked at him in confusion.
He frowned, looking somewhat exasperated. "Just give him a call. Don't go wandering around. You're Hendrix's wife. Do you think they won't go after you after making a move on Hendrix? Don't forget, if anything happens to Hendrix, you stand to inherit all his assets. You're an equal target."
His shocking words sent shivers down my spine and I broke out in a cold sweat. I took out my phone from my pocket and called Sheridan. After the phone call, I looked at him and asked, "What now?"
He answered nonchalantly, "If you want to die, you can go to the hotel with your father's men. If you're afraid of death, you can stay here until we've confirmed Hendrix's whereabouts."
Of course, I chose the latter. Who in their right mind would choose to risk death? I looked at him and said cautiously, "Would it be convenient for me to live here?"
His laugh echoed around me, "It's not convenient, but do you have a choice?"
Nope.
Tobias's villa was very big but I was given the room next to his. Sheridan acted right after he received my instructions. After that, there was nothing else I could do but sit tight and wait.
Tobias, on the other hand, was completely carefree. After the video conference in his study, he went swimming in the swimming pool behind the villa.
It was a big villa with so few people, and I felt lonely. I couldn't sit still, so I went down for a walk on the grounds. I was surprised to find a vegetable garden in the backyard.
The greater surprise was not the presence of the garden itself. What was surprising was that Tobias, the playboy, had such an interest in growing vegetables. From the looks of it, he took great care of his garden. I even saw mulberries on the backyard wall. The layout didn't seem like it was professionally done yet it had a certain charm.
I noticed that the cucumbers were ripe. Some cucumbers looked exceptionally juicy. However, at closer inspection, its branches were starting to wither, the leaves turning yellow. Perhaps it was because no one wanted to eat them, hence they were just left hanging like that.
