My Pretty Sweetheart novel Chapter 1385

Pedro cracked a smile and said, "He's not a bodyguard. You have many bodyguards by your side. I reckon that's more than enough. You'll attract a lot of attention if there are way too many bodyguards around. Mr. Lawson is not my subordinate. He used to work in Oakland. But as he aged, he did not get married and instead, he bought some real estate in Oakland and settled down there."

I was stunned. I was surprised to find out that Sheridan had not married yet. At his age, I assumed that he would have settled down.

Valerie was back. Of late, she had been busy tending to Anne. I felt bad looking at her haggard face. As she handed over the medicine to me, I helped her to take a seat. I hesitated for a moment before I said, "Mom, Dad, I'll need your help looking after Anne in the next few days. I'm planning to head over to Asherton. I have some matters to attend to."

Pedro was taken aback. "Have you made up your mind?"

I nodded and said smilingly, "I have."

Valerie looked at Pedro and me. She was perceptive enough to know what I was up to. She frowned and asked, "Is this because of Anne?" She had always warned us against making any hasty decisions concerning Anne, which could be detrimental to our interests in the long run. Immediately, she objected, "I won't allow it. Arianna, I get that you want to save Anne. But you have to calm down and think things through. You have parents and a family. Your decision can impact many people. What am I supposed to do if anything happens to you?"

I could not let her in on the details. So I reassured her, "No worries, Mom. I'm merely heading over to find out more about organ trading. I'll discuss this with you once I'm back from Asherton. This is no small matter. I won't make any hasty decisions."

She pursed her lips. After a moment of silence, she said, "Alright then, go ahead. No matter what happens, be sure to keep us in the loop. Don't rush into making any decisions without prior discussion with us."

I nodded. "Yeah, I know," I said. "Don't worry. I know what I'm doing."

Hendrix was back after ending his phone conversation. When he saw them looking at me worriedly, he could not help but ask, "What happened?"

Valerie went ahead and said, "Mr. Roberts, you're accompanying Arianna to Asherton, aren't you? She's pregnant. I would be worried if she was out there alone. I know you have been busy, but you can't afford to neglect her. After all, she's pregnant with your baby. No matter what, she' s your priority."

Hendrix was not aware that I wanted to go to Asherton. When he heard Valerie's words, he directed his gaze at me and frowned slightly. Fortunately, he did not ask further. Instead, he nodded and answered, "Okay, sure."

It was getting late into the night. Valerie was concerned that sleeping late would be bad for my health, so she said, "Alright, it's getting late. You'd better be making a move. Be sure to keep us informed when you decide on a date to head over to Asherton. Your dad will get someone to look after you."

I had wanted to say that I could go to Asherton by myself, but I held back lest they keep nagging. Instead, I nodded. Then, I left the hospital alongside Hendrix.

When I got in the car, I did not talk to Hendrix. Instead, I chatted with Wendy over the phone.
