He'd be undoubtedly locked behind bars once they found out what he had done. Despite having been conducted secretively, he'd still killed the enemy without hesitation. Yet, his mission and responsibility were to protect us. Indeed, Bobbie was an evil person who deserved no mercy from all of us. But for Hendrix, it was a justice that would torture him for the rest of his life.
With a glance at my pale face, he smiled as he held me in his arms. "Don't worry, I've my own plans on this matter. Don't get flustered."
At this moment, Pedro came down and informed us with excitement, "Anne's bone marrow has successfully matched with a woman who died in an accident earlier. Everything will be alright! She's saved now! Don't be worried!"
I couldn't get anything out of my mouth as I bit my lips. It was a moment when I felt thoroughly suffocated by my heavy guilt. Ever since my incident, I was glad that Hendrix didn't take any vengeance. He was a person who would have tortured all of these people to death with his rage. Yet, he didn't do that, which made me happy and relieved.
Unlike him, evil had been running through my blood. I wouldn't have minded squishing those people who have hurt me to their deaths, it didn't bother me too much. But that wasn't Hendrix's character. He had always abided by the law, viewing his responsibility and mission as his lifelong goals. Hendrix would settle things in the gentlest way possible no matter what happened.
But this time, he had made an exception. It wasn't an accident, what happened to the Hathaways. He even had the intention to kill someone just for me, something that I'd never wanted to see. People have always said that a couple would grow together and support each other as they became better people. But I...
At this moment, Evan once again appeared before us, seemingly in a hurry. This time he went straight to the point without avoiding. "Mr. Roberts, something has happened at the Oakland ports. They found illegal drugs and military weapons in the imported goods, which alerted the police from Zuckerburg."
Hearing this shocking news, Hendrix scowled and pursed his lips. "Alright, noted!"
Pedro paused for a moment before he continued, "It seems that the Milton family is ready to take action. I'll deal with the things here. You better get to Oakland right now. It'll be a tough battle to win."
Holding me in his arms, Hendrix looked at me tenderly and spoke in a low voice, "No matter what happens, protect yourself before anyone else, understand?"
I nodded. His gentle behavior urged me to give him a tight hug.
Seeing he was about to depart, I swiftly caught up to him and said, "I'll send you off!" I had no idea why I was so reluctant for him to leave. It wasn't like we hadn't been separated before. But somehow, this time it felt different. I was reluctant to have this separation between us.
Hendrix smirked when he saw me trailing behind him. He held me in his arms before getting in the car and said with a smiling face, "Why do you still act like a child?"
His comment didn't bother me too much. I hauled myself into his arms and hugged him with all my strength. "I really can't have you leaving me. Promise me that as soon as the problems in Oakland are resolved, you'll spend some time with me, alright?"
He smiled faintly as he stroked my hair. He answered, "Alright, I promise you. But before that, you'll need to take good care of yourself."
I nodded and cuddled him.
Time felt extraordinarily short when people were parting. In just a split second, Evan had already collected the air ticket. I held onto Hendrix, unwilling to let go.
Knowing my insecurity, Hendrix didn't leave but hugged me tighter and spoke to me in his tenderest voice, reminding me to take good care of myself, to take my meals on time, to remember to shut my windows before I sleep, not stay up late, to watch my diet...
