Despite being in the suburbs, this was a mansion that cost millions of dollars. What was he thinking, setting this house on fire?
Sheridan then sighed and said, "You should go to the hospital first to check on your father. I'll take care of everything else."
Looking around and seeing this huge crowd of people, I couldn't bring myself to ask him more. I did as Sheridan said and got to the hospital. After examining, the doctors found out that Pedro was choked by the smoke. Thankfully, he would be fine after sufficient rest.
At this moment, Evan headed to the Emperor Restaurant to take care of unfinished business, whereas Sheridan followed up with John's fire. I was left in the hospital corridor with Westin.
We sat there for a long time before I broke the silence and said, "Westin, I know that we have parted ways. I won't ask you too many questions. But since I helped you today, can you please tell me, how is Kaleb still alive?"
Westin's wound had been tightly bandaged by a doctor at this point, and he sat next to me in complete silence.
It was a long unpleasant silence before he started speaking, "That wasn't Kaleb's body in Oakland. The Emperor Club is run jointly by Kaleb and Sebastian. So was the factory with the operating room that you went to. But Sebastian had passed all these businesses over to Kaleb recently."
Hearing his words, I frowned. "What do you mean?"
He then looked at me and said, "I know you are looking for evidence of Sebastian's illegal activities. He knows too. When you visited the village, he took the opportunity to make a deal with Kaleb. After all these years, these businesses had turned sour and started bringing him more trouble than profit, so Sebastian was trying to find a way to get rid of them. This was where you came in. He knew that you wanted to investigate him and expose all of his wrongdoings, so he decided to lead you to them. This was the reason he handed over all these businesses to Kaleb, so that he wouldn't be the one to bear the responsibilities."
I was completely stunned. "Why did Kaleb agree to this?" They were all proud people. How could he be willing to become a scapegoat?
