This matter should have solely been the Moore family's, and I should not have meddled in it. However, Freya insisted that I accompany her. Although I did not know the reason why, I dared not refuse after seeing her break out in cold sweat as she took a few steps forward. She really needed someone to take care of her.
In the living room, Pedro and Valerie were in the main seats, and I supported Freya, helping her to her own chair as the bodyguards brought in the man in question.
After a few days, Zachary was no longer the refined gentleman he used to be. His clothes were wrinkled, and there were several bruises blotted onto his gentle face, which made him look pathetic. Stephanie came along with him. Different from Zachary, there were not much changes to her appearance. But her eyes seemed tired, probably because she had been detained for a few days.
"Freya, are you alright?" Zachary asked, looking very concerned upon seeing Freya. His mistress next to him shot him a sidelong glance.
Freya's wound had yet to heal, so her body could not handle any physical stress. However, upon seeing the both of them, she straightened her body and her expression was indifferent and apathetic. It was as if this issue did not bother her at all.
Only I could see clearly the hand that she concealed next to her, how hard she clenched her fist. It showed how much agony she was in due to the severe wound on her back.
She ignored Zachary's words and glanced coldly at Stephanie, asking, "Why did you do that to me?" "I should be the one asking you this," Stephanie retorted. She had been locked up and pent up for three days, and now the lingering atmosphere was tense. She returned Freya's gaze unabashedly.
There was no difference in Freya's expression. Her lips twitched slightly and she spoke again, "Alright, then tell me, what did I do to you?"
Zachary could not pick which side to stand with. He reached out and tugged on Stephanie's sleeve, in an attempt to stop her from escalating the situation.
"Fine, I'll tell you." Stephanie shook him off and took a step forward.
She continued, "I know. It was my fault that I took Zachary away from you. You could have hit me instead. I was prepared for whatever that was to come, but you should never have directed your anger towards my family. My father had a year more to go before he retired, but you got someone to dismiss him. He was hospitalized due to the anguish you caused, and he hasn't gotten up since. My brother, a PhD holder who has always been highly sought- after by many companies internationally, just came back to Zuckerburg to look for a new job. He couldn't get any replies until now. If it wasn't you who caused all of this, who else?"
It sounded as if the Simpson family's fortune was indeed helpless in such a tragic situation, but Stephanie tried to destroy someone else's face and life. Wasn't she cruder and more merciless?
Even if Prey a had really done all of this, she wouldn't even have bothered if not for Stephanie getting involved with Zachary.
"It seems that you're still not aware of the Moore family's full capabilities. You actually dared to hire a hitman to spill acid onto someone else just because we took down two of your family. If anything happens to Freya, I can sell off all of the Simpson family's assets in the whole of Jarold City. Do you believe that?" Pedro, who had not spoken all this while, glared at Stephanie sullenly. It was rare to see him this intimidating as he was usually laid back.
Stephanie sneered. "I don't know what you're talking about. What I know is that you've used your status as the daughter of the Moore family to your advantage. You've agreed to break up with Zachary peacefully, all the while using underhand methods to destroy the happiness of others and wipe them all out from your sight. If news of this were to spread, I'm afraid the Moore family's reputation might come to an end!"
"Zachary Holt, it seems that you have really good taste in women!" I mocked, gritting my teeth. I couldn't hold back anymore.
This woman still had the audacity to behave self-righteous when she turned Freya into this state. Her brazen attitude was even more despicable than Andrea in the past.
